Braid bargains?

Hi all,

Looking to renew the braid on my spinning reels but does anyone know of any good deals on at the moment as it can be a pretty costly affair. The last two times it has been Spiderwire Camo and Rovex Tergo (dark green) both in 25lb but any brands are welcome. I will be using it a lot more for perch so if anyone knows a less visible type of braid then that would be ideal. There are a lot of pike where I intend to aim for the perch so just using a much lighter bs isnt really an option.

Cheers

Rik

I have just received my order of this and spooled up a couple of reels for long range feeder fishing.

I am sure someone will say it's rubbish but it looks like every other braid I have bought.

delivery was quick and easy.

I have only used it once when it worked perfectly so can't say anything about longevity.

Thanks for the info Sportsman. How long did it take to arrive. I am always hesitant when it comes to no named stuff just in case it turns out to be a bit crap and I end up losing a good fish and leave a lure and trace in it or something. It isnt often that you hear any feedback on cheap braid so you dont know if it is worth the risk. I guess the majority of it is produced in the same factory as the big name stuff anyway though.

It arrived in about two weeks.

As I said, it looks like other (more expensive) braid that I have bought in the past. I expect that it is as strong as it claims. Whether it will wear quicker remains to be seen.

I suspect that most of this stuff comes from a few factories and you are getting pretty much the same as a more expensive branded product but you pay your money and take your choice.

I am happy with it.

It's exactly the same stuff as you would pay a lot more for with a brand name. Just as strong, last as long and doesn't break the bank.

I'm not saying your wrong (I ain't got a clue) but i'm curious how you know it's exactly the same ?

An apprenticeship in the textile trade (when we had one) and too much money wasted on brand named braid in the past.

Tigger,

Last I knew there were but 3 (maybe 4) manufacturers. The "difference" came in quality control and testing post manufacturing. My understanding is that now it is all inspected by lazer light do-dads. I don't know what that means - lazer light inspections.

Has ANYONE - - - EVER - - - had braid fail that they thought was due to a manufacturing flaw - in any breaking strain?

I've not heard of one and would be interested myself.

I did hear once that "line weight" IGFA records cannot be claimed using braided line. Anyone else heard of such?

If you buy your braid by diameter rather than breaking strain then you will have such a massive margin of error that I can't imagine you breaking it, even the cheap stuff,

I've looked at and used several different brands of braid and have seen a difference in texture, diameter/breaking strain etc. My prefered braid is power pro. Personally i'd prefer to pay a slightly higher price and have confidence in the stuff...jmo of course.
