Vids been posted up here before - reasonably common occurence in the spring - seen it first hand more than once. Tis why surface lures can be so effective!

I've seen an adult mallard taken!

I have seen a dogs leg ripped clean off . It was rolled like a croc until it came off. It was terrible!

I've often seen duckings disappear, and have even seen a pike take an adult coot!

 

This happened on the Back Lake at Wingham that's a nature reserve that we don't fish.

 

The coot went down squawking and then there was an eerie silence (normally the birds are very noisy there in the winter). The wildfowl all quickly moved away from the area and circled round at what they hoped was a safe distance.

yes, I have seen it and fairly often, it's not just ducklings either, I saw a duck taken close to a reedbed last month, no 'babies' around yet.

Can't say I've ever seen it that clearly. More than once I've been distracted by the commotion and there has been one less duckling or gosling. In my case I can't say for sure it wasn't a big catfish, muskie, turtle rather than a pike. But I can say for sure there was one less bird.

In all the countless hours Ive spent by the water I have never ever seen it! If it wasn't for footage and accounts such as this I would have to say its a wives tale! Wonder why?

One took a duck a few years back at a Wingham Fish-In when I was down in grassey bank and it came right up out of the water kinda bill fish style, a very impressive sight. I think Si saw it as well.
