Dales< i never knew you were an East End boy, like moi'. Have the Bream been showing up on number one and if so, what size? Cheers Matey... BTW thats nazeing south in my picci... And yes, it is the one that caused 200 people to try and join in a week, with bucket loads of groundbait lol...

 

All I hear is second hand news about Walthamstow, I don't fish it because all the fish have been eaten. Last I heard was some one I was talking to on the Lea who had a 12 and some back up 10's and 11lb's. But he was unhappy about not connecting with the big ones and the fact he could not get in his swims on the second day after catching. That news is a few weeks old now.

You know I never realise you could get shot down so much on here. Being told to 'P off and do something else' is just uncalled for.

 

 

I have nothing against otters and cormorants, they're only doing what any predator would.

 

But it's hard not to feel they're not a form of threat when all you read/hear is how they are devastating our rivers and stillwaters.

Never had such bad replies for just saying what I was seeing. Don't even know why I still bother going on AN, it's not like anyone talks about fishing anymore.

 

See what I mean? The Angling Times! If ever an angling rag was inaccurate and spread deliberate rubbish it's that one. The Sunday Sport of the gutter angling press. In none of those stories is there anything other than speculation and wild claims made by anglers..not even a picture of an otter print let alone an otter. As for cormorants being to blame for spreading KHV...where did it originate from I wonder? A hard winter is causing carp to die in ponds that are too shallow and overstocked...let's blame the cormorants then!...what a load of uneducated, unscientific drivel!

 

Really interesting to read the poll results from chumps are us the Anglers Mail as well, look at the lowest two 'problems' voted for....carp pools and non-native fish!!!...says it all really. Unfortunately it's publications like this that 'lead the way' in 'popular' angling 'journalism'. Probably my number one contender for the most damaging thing to our angling :angry:

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

It's not cormorants and never has been. In the 80's it was even on the news that day ticket fisheries would be wiped out within 10 years.

 

 

The very first angling magazine I ever read had an article in it about the depredations of cormorants on our fisheries.

 

The date of this magazine ? Angling July-September edition, 1939 (there have been several magazines with the title "Angling" over the years )

73 years later we still hear the same story. Hacks then were just as desperate for scare stories as they are now.

 

BTW I still have the magazine - it contains an article on roach fishing not very different from one that was written just last week!

I agree with both yours and dales last comments of late there seem to be lots of threads designed to stirr up trouble with controversial idea's or titles that will undoubtedly lead to conflict.

 

Thank god the warmer weather is coming and I can spend all weekends fishing and all week working but planning.
