Some of you may have heard the news, of the governments plan of intoducing ID cards for everyone in the near future. Do we need them? do you consider it a necessity in todays society?

i think there was a post on this err subject in an earlier time

how do they know "who" you are when they issue the card  do you have to produce your passport (i dont have one) think what you have to produce to get a passport a driving license etc  or to get a driving licence do you produce a passport etc  both are easily forged ,even if they fingerprint everyone in the country to put on the cards ,what proof do they have you ARE you ,lots of cases of false papers issued on stolen or dead peoples birth certificates .so what is the base line ,certainly not any papers or id we have now  if smart cards are cloned now they certainly WILL be in the future

ID cards!!!!

I`ve currently got 5 of the sods. I mean `real` ID cards. Photo, signature, magnetic strip with god knows what about me encoded on them. I wouldn`t mind, but nobody ever asks to see them!!

As I work in a supposedly `secure` environment, you`d think at least the odd new security guard would ask me to produce now and again? I`ve never once had to produce any of them.

 Paul.

We don`t use J`s anymore!!

if you dont want people to see the inf on a magnetic strip then run a magnet down it ,simple (might confuse bank machines though)

Sound slike we are heading towards BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU !! and when you think about it they already are. If you use "plastic" they know where and when you shop, what you but where you fill up with fuel, what garage, in fact everytime a card is used they know which time, place, what you were doing etc. YOUR phone is tapped by the british government as is your PC and people just don't relise this. Is this not a breach of basic human rights and privacy laws....but its the powers that be doing what they do best..

JUST CUS IM PARANOID DOESN'T MEAN THEY'RE NOT OUT TO GET ME !!!!!!

Chesters! is right I blame the government !!!!

I cant wait for them to come into force !, like others I have to carry them around all day anyway, it seems that to many "Do Gooders" are butting in on the "Antis" I really do think that they will cut crime and assit police in their enquires, I mean whats the promlem of carring another card in your wallet ? I will sign up as soon as they ask, but then again I like many many others have nothing to hide.

I've no objection in principle to having an ID card, but if I had to carry it all the time that would be a different matter.
