in my opinion speed virtually never kills....

stupidity kills most of the time.

lack of skill kills quite a bit.

acts of god kill occasionally (heart attacks, severe mechanical failure etc)

speed, and speed alone kills very very rarely.

the issue doesnt come down to speed; the issue comes down to the competance of the driver and the other drivers around. thats the real issue. in my opinion anyway :)

As an ex A&E nurse and paramedic I can reliably tell you that speed certainly does kill. It may not always be the cause of the accident but it always affects the outcome.

The faster you are travelling at the time of the accident the more serious your injuries are likely to be.

Hit a tree at 30 and you will probably walk away. Hit the same tree at 80 and you will be carried away, after they have separated your body parts from the car ;)

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity

Your having a laugh darling, i wouldn't give anyone who peddles the scrapings me old son. It's your pathetic thinkings and the likes of your apologetic ilk who have got this country into the finantial and lawless mess. No busters that's your problem, gutless to stand up for what is right. Anyone proven who deals with death and imports give em a life sentence, 20 years min.

me and venomous don't go together cock. Getting older now me english ain't what it used to be. I'll can live with it

how many more examples of misery do you want before the light comes on.

Are you going to continue to pursue me across threads? This one is about driving, not drugs.

Perhaps you feel better about yourself after yet another nasty, crude outburst?

If you want to continue the debate on drugs then open another thread.

The difference between our ideas on the legal status of drugs is you want to keep the gangs and dealers in business, along with the attendant crime and misery which impacts either directly or indirectly on all of us. I am convinced by the school of thought which would cripple that crime, and resolve lots of other ills overnight. Nothing ‘apologetic’ nor weak about it.

You introduced the opinion of one member of parliament, you may consider such people to be beyond reproach, however they have their faults too y’know?

Apologies to the starter of this thread for this diversion. I shan’t write any more about drugs in it.

I thought it was sudden deceleration that killed not speed.

Very true but the higher the initial speed the more severe the deceleration. It is also the impact of various sharp bits of car that contribute

As an example of the effect of speed

You lay on you back and I will drop a 16lb bowling ball on your face.

From an inch above it would be quite sore

from 10 feet above the damage would be spectacular

The bowling ball weighs the same, the only difference is the speed it is travelling at, at impact

A tree is one of those things that I wouldn't even want to hit at thirty - they are much stronger and much more firmly rooted than people imagine, and their narrowness concentrates the forces on a small area of the car.

Youre absolutely right.

Hit a lamp post or road sign and it will break or fall over.

Hit a tree and you stop...........dead

Ayjay,

How quickly we forget. REMEMBER! now? Accidents plummeted and gas mileage skyrocketed.

I didn't say I'd forgotten, I said I had no idea about the accident rate, I've never been interested enough to search for any statistics.

There are plenty of drivers who are incompetent at any speed limit, (even 30) maybe it's time the driving test was designed to weed them out.
