As many as 27 people have been killed, including many children, in a shooting attack at a primary school in the US state of Connecticut, US media say.

At least 18 children are among the dead at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, the Associated Press reported.

Earlier, the gunman was reported to have been killed and at least three people were taken to hospital.

Yes but so long as we don't infringe the rights of those maniacs to bear arms it's OK.

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed

ayjay,

The guy was "mental", not elgible to own guns. They weren't his guns.

Sadly, you're right - this will generate another spike in gun sales in the US

Defensive? With regards to knee-jerk weapon sales, I mean.

ayjay,

The evening news has been expanded from one hour to two hours. All about the "event" (started 9:30am NON-stop, every channel - now 6:30 pm my time and going strong).

The majority of "expert" opinion is hinting that we simply MUST turn our school into confinement prisons for children. We, all America, are in a state of irrational hysteria.

The President cut his remarks short and couldn't take questions. Reported, as a parent of school age children he couldn't continue.

There are some very sick individuals over there, as we have here. Mass shooting like this will carry on irregardless what steps are taken.

I watched the BBC news this morning, the reporter was speaking about the rifle group over there, forgot its full name, in an unconnected incident the rifle spokesman said.

At least the armed police officer got the guy ? That was after another shooting, not a mention was said about the maniac who done the shooting.

A strange remark to make IMO.

Of course he was mental, those kids are just as dead though, and it didn't stop him getting the guns, it's too easy to get guns.

That's how you folks want to live it's up to you, but it's happened before and it is definitely going to happen again.

Will it be your daughters school next time?

This is the 21st century, not the wild west of the 19th, it's not necessary to have a gun in every glove box.
