Beginning of the end??????

Now that the hunting bill has been passed by the house of commons, what does the future hold for angling???

Most of the groups who are pushing for a ban on hunting have also expressed a desire to see angling banned in the future under the banner of 'field sports'.

I think this is a myth, perpetrated by the pro-hunting lobby who want the anglers on their side. There's a huge difference in the public perception of fox-hunting and angling, with shooting coming somewhere between the two.

You meet all kinds of animal on the riverbank.

They will never ban fishing.

Several MPs like fishing, and I could imagine a lot of the old duffers in the house of lords loving a bit of fly fishing in Scotland before quaffing down a load of foire gras and drambuie in their country lodge.

Plus think of all the tax they get from commercial fisheries, and even the VAT on sales of tackle! Too much cash in it for them.

Plus how many disgruntled voters would there be? Too many anglers to upset.

Wish that were so Pangolin, have a look on the websites of the RSPCA, English nature and the Green party.

Unfortunately you'll soon see there is no subterfuge going on, it's all up front and these are powerful people who really don't like us.

There is, at the moment, over 3 million anglers in the UK and you would hope that the government wouldn't want to pee that many people off. However, it hasn't stopped them persecuting 20 odd million motorists has it ?

Great news!! Now, perhaps, anglers can now unite as anglers rather than being dragged into the arguements of others. This could be the catalyst that angling needs to kick it into action. It really is good news for angling. We need a kick up the rrrrrrrr!

Yup, the pressure groups backing said bill are all 'anti' angling and we can expect the same treatment from them that Foxhunters get now.

Jealousy: totally irrational anger directed at people who happen to be richer, prettier, thinner, cleverer and more successful than you are.
