garylee,

The Pope dies without Hope. He does not know where he is going when he dies. He has no real hope of heaven. He has no assurance of salvation. To him and the “church” it is a sin of presumption to claim to have any assurance of heaven in this life.

Edit: I forget how but the phrase "The will of God is not entirely clear" was a part of the Latin service.

Phone I should have added a smiley with a big grin: it wasn't a serious question. But I'm on a tablet and for some reason it will not show the smiley selection.

Smile they said life could get worse, I did and it was

I was surprised by this, Phone, and have checked it out a bit on the web. While it's true that a Roman Catholic wouldn't accept the same kind of doctrine of assurance (by faith alone) that I do as an evangelical ( a doctrine that I think came back into the church through the Wesleyan revival, the Puritans didn't have it) they often do in practice have assurance that they are going to heaven. But maybe you know this and were being a bit contentious - I won't bang on about it cos it's off thread.

Not wishing to offend any Catholic readers(which Im not one)I have NEVER seen a man look as scared and overawd as the new Pope did when he stood on the balcony. WHY, OH WHY have elected another old duffer to lead the Church. Surely with all the problems the Catholic church has at the moment it needs someone a lot younger who will lead them for many years and reform and modernise it instead of living in the 18th Century which it surely is now.

Just one big fish, PLEASE!!!!!!

garylee,

Ha ha, well you set the hook but didn't reel.

Tench,

I am not Catholic either, but I knew one once. My comment was not researched but from memory. Somehow the Pope is a regular guy who goes through pergatory with the rest of Catholic humankind (something we don't have - pergatory?). Between garylee and you I'm probably digging myself a grave of misconception.
