Thanks folks. I knew it was worth asking you guys. Plenty of options. I like the idea of the one tigger suggested. I have read some good opinions on them and for some reason I am tending to favour slightly older gear now as it just seems to be better made and they seem to have a much more forgiving action. Maybe because they arent aimed at huge carp.

Just to be boring...again...the Chapman 500 is a really sweet rod, a 10' rod with a sensitive tip and loads of muscle in the butt, a cracking light-medium ledger/feeder rod...no different tips though unless you're handy with cane! I've used it for chub/perch float fishing on brooks as well!

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

The pin porn guys would also enjoy the catalog I suspect.

Edit: I'll see if this will paste in

The top item of the two day offering was Lot #38, an exceptional 3/0 Hardy Cascapedia Salmon Reel. Closing at $25,960.00, the 1930's fly reel achieved a milestone - 8_1.jpg63_1.jpg

marking the first time an American auction realized a world record price for an English reel.

I have 3 of these I bought the last one when I heard they were being discontinued.

They are a superb rod. The butt section comes out so you can put the long or short one into it. This does not upset the action of the rod like silly extensions do. The spliced in tips are a joy.

Phone,

I base my comment on experience of using some more modern rods and having little experience with older rods. When I pick up older rods and use them I have found that they tend to be softer and a much more through action. The better ones anyway.

John,

Looks a nice rod. I noticed the eyes are quite small and it mentions being a combo rod. Does that imply that it is a float rod also?

This is a nice classic bomb rod http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/drennan-11ft-6-im8-bomb-rod-mint-condition-classic-rare-rod-/130889856667?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Fishing_FishingRods_EH&hash=item1e79a4b69b

Combo rods can be fished at two lengths and were very well designed. Instead of a short dolly section to change the length they have two mid sections, a short and a long: this means that the rod works well at both lengths.

This was not always the case with rods with a dolly section as this could upset a rods action.

Smile they said life could get worse, I did and it was

I am certainly noticing the old drennans seem to be the choice for a lot of people.
