A storm is a'coming

I see elsewhere that many are getting caught out about the forecast wind speed. This is because most sites give just the average wind speed. What's dangerous are the gusts. These may be 1 1/2 to 2x the average wind speed depending on how exposed you are.

Additionally some sites give the wind speed at just midday and midnight, others just at midday. The maximum may be between these hours and significantly higher.

For instance the BBC web site gives the wind speed in its summary as 24mph for Canterbury, but on its hourly tabular page forecasts the strongest speed to be 40mph at 7am on Monday.

Now the BBC site is based on the Met Office forecast. Hop over to the Met Office site (that isn't otherwise as comprehensive) and you can see the gust forecast. This shows 65mph - a hell of a difference!

Even then this doesn't take into account the full potential for falling trees. This is partly because the ground is saturated due to recent rain, meaning that tree roots won't be held so firmly. Even worse is that most of the trees are in full leaf. This will mean that, rather than the wind whistling through the branches, the trees will take almost the full force of the wind.

So if the forecast is accurate expect a lot of fallen trees, not only on the waterside but also on the roads.

I certainly wouldn't be going fishing in the storm!

don't let the trust and bass know about mild winters big cod, that'll put a spoke in their campaign to recommend legislation against all including anglers and charter skippers that the bass stocks are in peril, (too many cold winters of late) and only those two orgs can save them with punitive legislation while supporting the French commercial industry to carry on as is. that just won't do.

Barry the last few cold winter have seen a dramatic fall in bass numbers here at whitby its all down to water temperature and this winter its come a live with cod 1-3lb its lifting with them again all down to the last couple of cold winters the cod biomass has been very good allways is with very cold winters the hatch survival rate has been very high hense cod galore here at whitby not many above 7 or 8 lb uptiding but stacks of fish fantastic sport here at the moment.

There are probably websites available (certainly if you're near the coast) which give a more detailed view of the local weather, either imminent or very recent, Bramblemet is very useful for the Solent area. Well worth searching the net for sites in your area.

Here's another one for Hurst Point, at the Western end of the Solent, it's just wind data.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

A low of 960 will raise sea levels by about half a meter. Then there's the waves.
