Flask Cleaning

I've found bi-carb works fine, you're unlikely to get an upset stomach as the flask won't absorb and it only takes one rinse to make sure it's all gone. As regards the gunge you only get a build up if you don't clean the flask regularly. Then all it needs is a bottle brush to loosen it up. Anyway each to his own. I'll carry on with the bi-carb. I haven't killed Steve - YET :)

Elton, I clean mine daily (I fish every day :D:D ) and I boil up a cupfull of water pour this in one flask and add a half teaspoon of dishwasher powder. Screw the lid on and shake vigourously and finish off with a bristle type dish washer brush ( the long ones)

If you have left it unwashed for any length of time take special care just below the neck, where it widens out......And......DONT LEAVE IT UNWASHED AGAIN :D

Having used large flasks for many years I'm now a convert to 2 smaller flasks. Drinks stay hotter for longer and, even though they take up more room, I find them easier to pack than 1 large one.

Steradent tablets always used to be recommended, but I have a feeling that it's only a very expensive way of buying what is virtually the same as soda crystals.

Try a teaspoon full of biological washing poweder, top it up with hot water and leave it overnight. The stuff seems to remove almost any stain. It'll even shift tea stains from office cups.

Another top product is Chempro SDP that's used in home brew. Only problem is I can't remember whether you can use it on SS.

Chlorine base bleach and stainless steel don't really mix.It will eventually cause pitting in the metal. I am not sure about steradent being just bicarb. I remember sticking my teeth in one day and I had forgot to rinse them first. It tasted really bad. Crushed up egg shells and boiling water are good for the old glass type flask and may be good on SS too, can't do any harm.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.
