Gall bladder op tomorrow

I'm having my gall bladder removed tomorrow. I'm apparently first on the list so it's up at 5.30 to get to the hospital by 7.30. On the plus side it means that, barring complications, I should be back home by this time tomorrow.

 

I'll also be able to get back to a normal diet. I've religiously stuck to an ultra low fat diet for the last 3 months that, although boring, means that I've had less pain than many waiting for the op. It's also been nothing like the pain of the infected gall bladder I had when I went in via A&E in September. Luckily too, Peggy is a superb cook and has dreamt up new recipes to tickle my tastebuds.

 

However I've lost a lot of weight and several inches off my waist.

Cholecystitis can be extremely painful so anything that helps that has to be a good thing.

No kebab, Ken, as they're not one of my favourite.s But I am looking forward to a full English breakfast!

 

I've had 3 trips to A&E with chest pains. It was only on the last one that a (very young!) doctor got the correct diagnosis of a gall bladder problem. On a previous occasion I was kept in over night and released with a presciption for high blood pressure tablets. Yes, my blood pressure was unsurprisingly high on admission, but very quickly fell to my usual on the low side of average, and remained that way for the rest of my stay and ever since. At least it's nice to know my heart is fine.

 

I was going to have an early night, but work has got in the way. Off to bed now though.

Update on Steve

 

He had his op yesterday but not after some difficulties. He was due to go to theatre first in the morning but they swapped him with another patient who was potentially more difficult and so it proved to be. He was in theatre for 4 hours and by that time the theatre slot for Steve was gone. However they got another surgeounto do the op and transferred him to one of the Day Surgery theatres and he finally went in at 3pm.

 

I went to collect him at 6pm expecting to be able to take him home later but was called in by the consultant to say there were complications. He had multiple adhesions including to the bowel which had perforated. This had been reparied but they were still dissecting out the rest of the gall bladder. He finally got into recovery after nearly 5 hours and a team including the consultant working on him.

 

I spoke to him last night near midnight and again this morning and he's in good spirits. The consultant has been to see him and he will be in until Monday at least. He has infection from the gall bladder plus the bile duct had been completely blocked by one large stone. He has to go back to the hospital on 27th December to the consultant assuming he's been discharged by then.

 

We had our Christmas early with the grandchildren last weekend so for us Christmas Day was really going to be just an ordinary day anyway and the most important thing is Steve recovers well.
