Do you have a new challenge this year?

Not so much a new challenge; more an ongoing one that has been frustrating me for maybe 3 years now ... I do a lot of lure fishing, and have had a few follows from a seriously large Pike in one particular stretch of river - when I say 'seriously large', she's very obviouslya good lump larger than my PB (which is a higher 20's) ... I REALLY want her out on a lure though, not sat behind a bait rod!

philo,

For serious piking the lowly Dardevle Spoons are still number one in the US.

Great lures Phone - I agree, unfortunately very limited in availability on this side of the Atlantic, and expensive when you can find them in decent sizes / colours!

I am going to try fishing with no boilies, no I dont mean with a bare hook I mean using alternative baits.

I will start with using Pallatrax Hidra Snails soaked in minimino rather than lake water.

They sure look disgusting but I am positive I will catch more doing this.

Oh come next Winter I am hanging up the carp rods and going Pike fishing, something I used to do a lot of and really enjoyed.

My first challenge is to try clean the dried bread off everything I own. It's turned into an annual event :)

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

The major (and perpetual) challenge for me is a two-pound roach

But as Gozzer will tell you, there are countless roach out there weighing exactly 1 lb 14 oz (or in his case 1 lb 13 oz) :)

Other challenges are catching new UK species, but with 105 already on my UK list, it gets more and more difficult.

I would like to catch a salmon in Wales - have caught them in Ireland, Scotland and England and would like to complete the set - I have access to a Welsh salmon river this year, so fingers crossed.

The big 7" version of the Storm Wildeye suspending shads should see you right - but change the splitring and treble. You might also consider snipping off the big single on the top. Superb lifelike lures that have landed me some very, very big fish including pike to over 20lbs.

They don't actually suspend but sink slowly which lets you fish them very slow if needed.

None to durable with pike but that hardly matters if you're targetting a specific fish.

I'll be playing with some of the little blade baits that I brought back from Thailand to see if I can target chub and perch with them in water that's to deep for conventional spinners.
