Signed up & pleased to do so.

A military hospital would be in the best position by far to deal with servicemens injuries, any institution dealing with a particular group would soon become more proficient than a general NHS hospital at dealing with their specific problems. As for 'best of care' in the NHS, I'm afraid thats pretty dodgy ground. I have nothing but admiration for the NHS staff who battle against this monolith & still produce good nursing care, but 'best of care' I'm afraid not.

Unfortunately there is a section of the public who transfer their anger at the Iraq/Afghanistan situation onto the poor men & women out there doing what they're employed to do & putting their lives on the line whilst doing it. Incidentally, when did this government of ours ever do anything that didn't need either a total overhaul, or a U turn to prevent it being a complete disaster!

Peter.

My Grandad was a 14-18 war vetren Royal Horse Artillary, he passed away in the seventies he on a couple of occaisions needed hospitiliesation durring his service once in a Canadian field hospital in france and twice in the Royal Herbert military Hospital on Shooters Hill Near Woolwich He was treated for inhalation of Phosgine gass and aneamia caused by Lice infestation contacted in the trenches,Initialy treated by the Canaidians, and after care over subsequent years given at the Royal Herbert, Grandad had emphesiamia (sp) at the age of twentytwo he lived into his eighties as a result of the excelent care he recieved at the Herbert, my Gran in the late eighties,

herself being in her eighties was cared for in the queen Elizabeth military Hospital on Woolwich common (The Hospital that replaced the Herbert) after a hip fracture this she was intiteld to because of Grandads Military service, These Hospitals not only offerd a invaluable service to our military and Ex service men They allso offerd an extreemly high service of care to thier dependents,in garrison towns and the like,

Why are we alowing our armed forces and there familys to be treated so Poorley??It is a National Disgrace. Our Forces are working harder than they have in Forty years and have less than they had 90 years ago :nonono:

With Birmighams hospitals being located centrally in the country and within easy reach of both RAF Cosford and Birmingham international airport, it's unfortunatly common for me to see helecopters flying accross the city carrying troops to be treated.

I believe that they were initially being treated on the public wards but a few incidents like this changed that and they now have their own wards.

With the new hospital comming on streem in 2010 they will go from having their own wards to their own wings so any risk of similar incidents will be greatly reduced but they will still have access to all of the facilities and expertize associated with a brand new world class teaching hospital.

Whilst I agree that local veterans hospitals/centrers are the way to go for long term care in terms of things like mental health and prosthiesis management, the priority for care of the injured has to be provision of the best possible care. I don't think that you can do that in a small local millitary hospital.

Coming on 107,000 signatures so far.

I can see that the old military hospitals did lack resources and as stated were far away from many of the families concerned.

However as stated most wounds inflicted in combat are a specialist subject when it come to healing and recovery, perhaps several specialist units attached to NHS units through out the UK would be a good idea.

I would be having a very sharp word with the people who complained about the swimming excises, a right load of barstewards. And why the hell did they not have closed sessions for him? they do for other sections of society.

The only one that did make a difference was the road pricing petition. It certainly had many thousands of signitures and the government decided not to go ahead with road pricing.

You reckon? They're still putting money our into feasibility studies, etc, they just don't talk about it any more. The government still wants it, they just have to think of a way of foisting it on us.

OI OI,

Sighned, if they are closing so many wards on civvy street WHY can't every local hospital open one just for servicemen & women with help from local medical staff from local garisson's. but i for one think they should NEVER be put on public wards. As for lynne jones m.p. well i know what she wants with the rough end of a ragmans trumpet BITCH or send her into hellmans province to take a look for her self.

Thats another place that should be raised to the ground.

Or in a more polite manner, I would quote Lord Marlborough, from memory so might not be correct......

"For it's soldier this and soldier that and give the fella the boot, but 'tis saviour of our Country when guns begin to shoot."

You're thinking of Kipling's "Tommy Atkins":

http://faxmentis.org/html/kipling.html

Kipling came in for a lot of undeserved stick for being a warmonger (he wasn't). When his son John was killed in the First World War, he received some particularly nasty letters from some members of the public who thought he'd "Got what he deserved for glorifying war".

Soldiers have always been heroes when they're needed and villains when they're not, so things haven't changed a lot...
