i dont begrudge or take the mickey for anyone paying that for a reel, the point is that i am so clumsy, i just know that i would break a £300+ reel in no time!!!

Can anyone tell me why centrepin reel cost a lot of money and was is the advanatage and disadvantage of having one

Cost is because of the need for precision engineering and limited production runs.

 

Advantages: The tool for the job when long-trotting slow moving rivers. Gives immediate control and intimate feedback when fighting a hard fighting fish. A pleasure that only those that use one can know.

 

Disadvantages: Most people can't cast very far with them, and those that can can't cast very far.

Just had a look at Chris's beautiful workmanship.

Not sure how long it would take to make one of these, but think of how much you would expect for the time involved and materials used, and I'm sure the price will seem quite reasonable.

Had a look at the price of up market fly reel's

lately? (doubt if they're hand made!)...Proud owner of a newley aquired Adcocks Stanton...
