Hello,

all large enough pikes are always an interest to people dedicated to fishing. Even those who are claimed to be large, such as the one from Hoppy4. Without any doubt in my mind, that pike does not weight 20kg, far from it, as you can clearly divise from the picture. This very pike is discussed at http://www.fiskesnack.com

Currently the thread has 48 replies and above 1,300 views. Not anyone of them think that it has the weight that was claimed, they believe the weight is around half of what is claimed here. The thread is called "20kg gädda". If you want to view some pictures of Swedish pikes you can visit their excellent picture gallery called "Fotoalbum", you can there click the link called "Gäddor" which will direct you to 2,604 pictures of pikes, many of them have the same size as the pike Hoppy4 showcased.

By the way, the picture of the three Swedish pikes who were added to this thread, the largest one 19.9kg. All of them were catched and released just as the other twelve pikes above 15kg that were caught that year in Lödde å and for the record, the 19.9kg pike was the second largest one.

Tight lines, or as we say in Sweden, skitfiske.

I would say at least that my personal guess would be 30ish but wouldn't be at all surprised if you told me it was bigger it looks a very long fish probably 46" plus..

No offence but how come the Swedes word is being taken as gospel there are a few of us on here who have caught some large pike and suddenly those opinions count for nothing against the mighty swedes :P

Well done Chris you have got your 30 after all, I knew you would do it mate. :D

Now onto our friend hoppy. I can not prove either way if the fish is the stated weight, never will be able to either like everyone else. It is a shame what can happen when a fantastic fish like this has been caught, but Im afraid the good always comes with the bad when such fish are caught. From a personal point of view the response I got when i caught the 41 was incredible, I just couldnt believe the positive comments I recieved from the piking community at first, it was a great feeling knowing that everyone was happy for me. Sadly things soon turn sour and I have had more than my fair share of bitching and plenty of other incidents that took the shine of the catch, but I dont want to go into all this stuff again. At the end of the day I rose above it and kept reminding myself of what I had caught and this has got me through the bad times after the catch. Hoppy has dealt with the criticism in the best possible way ( I have and still doubt the weight, but thats not important) and has came out on top. The fact is that if you do make such a catch you cant expect everyone to pat you on the back, it would be nice if they did, but Im afraid thats not the way it is in this game. Anyway, well done again on the cracking pike Hoppy and remember it doesnt matter what others think (me included) its how you feel that counts for everything mate.

Haven,t some people questioned the weight of your fish fudgey?(not stirring just curious) and weren,t you on your own when you caught it? Theres always going to be doubters and jealous people, like you said you just have to rise above it. :)

Wanna buy some pegs dave..

I was on my own mate and amazingly no one has questioned the weight. Anyone that knows me will know I dont exagerate weights of my Pike, anyone who is as desperate as me for 20lb plussers that has had 12 19lbers in the last 36 months surely can not be questioned. :D Can they? Dont answer that I know theres always one or two that will.

Does anyone agree with me that we are getting a little bit to wrapped up in the weight thing? Personally I would rather catch a fin perfect healthy fish than a specimen who has seen better days. Now don't get me wrong, I can appreciate that having targets is fine, some of us need goals, I wanted a double figure barbel and was fortunate to have achieved that this season.

I am amazed of the number of anglers who specialise in barbel carp or pike have neglected the other species. I wonder if they know what they are missing, to have never trotted a stick float and felt that delight in seeeing the float bury as you connect with a roach, chub or perch.

Back to basics lads and leave the scales and camera at home :)
