From The Sublime To The Ridiculous

I was discussing this with the wife tonight and was disgusted that, at 6 months pregnant, she had to perform a test in somebody's house this week whilst they chain-smoked the whole way through.

Why should she and her unborn child, my unborn child, be exposed to the risk of cancer whilst performing their job? Surely, even a heavy smoker can stop for an hour?

Had that person been forced to come to hospital for the very same test, they would not have been allowed to smoke, not even in the hospital car park!

She should have walked out and said, "So, sue me".

its nothing to do with the ability to stop for a while whilst visitors are in your house Elton but plain manners which unfortunatly is rare in some people today ,not confined to smokers but an old friend used to move things which annoyed me whilst he visited and another seemed unaware his boots were dirty after foxing which annoyed the mrs ,not all of it is bad manners ofcourse but a lack of respect for others . :( or just not enough brain cells to notice what could be the result of their actions.

when i visit the daughters i smoke indoors in the one that smokes and outside in the one that doesent ,simple manners ,i smoke my mrs doesent i dont smoke in the living room where she sits but i do in the bedroom where i do using the pc

i'm saying nowt incase Newt construes it as a personal attack ,he being an american probably forgets we dont end pleasent verbal wordplay (meaning something completley different to whats written and seen at first glance) or disagreements at the point of a gun but in a less harmfull way of getting bored with the post and ignoring it and certainly not at a casual glance on a "report topic" click and acting before mr brain see the real meaning ;)

being english means "you bastard" or made up scenarios' (or whatever)can also be a friendly greeting /banter as well as a curse ,rant over and sorry for hijacking the thread

ROF. chesters1 - you are probably the only person I've ever know of who would start with "i'm saying nowt" and follow it with a long, rambling paragraph.

Unless, of course, the use of nowt in this context means something completely different and being American, I just didn't understand.:blink:

That's just plain old bad manners and something i'd never do.

.......But, i'm also disgusted to think some folk think it's ok to dictate what someone does in their own home.

I smoke and if you don't like it stay away, tough. I respect others and wouldn't dream of smoking in a non-smoking household, but this is my home and i'll do what I bloody well please.

:P

Ant,

Nobody's saying what to do in your own home. They're just asking that, for patients requiring home visits, they are extended the same level of protection that employees working within their own walls are.

Stupid thing is, it would be the employer who would probably get taken to court if the employee fell ill as a result.

I agree with the principle Elton but it annoys me how the aurthorities have yet again nudged smokers into a bracket of a lower class of people.

I can get choked by lorries and buses spewing out toxic fumes, sit on a train and have my brain fried by mobile phones yet light a fag up in my own home and i'm suddenly classed as Lucifer's and Vlad the Impaler's love child.

In both Mrs Elton and Nursejudy's cases the patients just showed complete bad manners and lack of respect for their 'carers'. In their position I'd be inclined to ask the patients to refrain from smoking because of my medical condition whilst I conduct the test. Pregnant, asthma or whatever but I'd make something up rather than put up with it. As for smoking around oxygen that is a pure safety no, no. Perhaps up to them when alone but not when anyone else is around - that I'd refuse to deal with on H&S grounds.
