Also, Steve Burke is a "stainless 49 strand wire guy". For what it's worth, as a note of confidence, when walleye fishing I discovered that the wire leader didn’t seem to hamper the walleye fishing (bite). It does require changing after a few fish because it gets all bumfuzzled.

how come us saltwater guys can use thick mono to catch large conger and ling, wire went out of fashion many years ago. The conger has sharp teeth, the ling's teeth even sharper.

 

we can get away with one trace all day, might be a bit frayed, but vary rare it cuts off.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

No one ever throws there toys out of the pram or threatens coarse guys for using worm and yet if I had to catch Pike esp on a river then popped up air inject worm would be by first line of attack

We are not putting it back it is a lump now put that curry down and go and get the scales

I really don't know why it went out of fashion on boats, but it is definitely frowned upon and no one uses wire today unless it's a newbie into the sport, then they are usually spoken to change their mind from wire to mono.

 

Even the light line guys who use 20 lb main line to haul up 100lb conger, use mono traces.

 

So what is so different when targeting pike?

To be clear, if I was fishing for pike I would use wire. Pike's teeth will cut through flouro unless you use a very heavy BS. But zander's teeth do not damage flouro at all, and perch don't have teeth - so if I'm lure fishing for those I want to use flouro. Both have very good eyesight and wire is a hindrance.

 

Also, if I was fishing for zander or perch with flouro and was hooking and losing pike, I'd stop and change something. But the fact is, on the reservoirs it just doesn't happen. This ban is based on someone's theory of what might happen, not what does happen.

My successor at Caliber Tackle switched supplier to American Fishing Wire 49 strand wire and continued to sell it as Wonder Wire. I've since used this AFW 49 strand wire and can recommend it. It's available from a lot of sources. However by no means all 49 strand wire is as good!

havnt we been through this before Barry, pike teeth aint the same as ling, conger, etc.

 

its been shown fluoro and pike is a gamble.

I know we have, I either need reminding or I'm still looking for a definitive answer.
