What your angling weakness ?

My other weakness is food while fishing!!!! If I'd landed all the bites I've missed due to having my hands full of food and stufing my face when the float goes under I'd be the next John Wilson!

Mat

But this can work in your favour too, Mat. I've had a number of decent fish when I've pulled my tackle right close in when I'm pouring a coffee or eating.

Perfectly reasonable on Stillwaters but when it comes to anything with a flow, particularly with a float, things start to get a bit hit and miss. Mt last time on the trent, bagged up, many times before came away stratching my head.

Also, as a 'traditional' rod and reel angler, when I bought my first pole not so long ago, I must have looked drunk trying to fish with and control the darned thing. Still persevering.

My weakness is tackel bargins. (i don't need a new carp rod but have you seen that shimano 2.5 test curve reduced to £39?) If its a bargin i will want to have it. Two years ago i bought fly fishing starter kit as it was reduced, i had never fly fished before in my life and since buying it i have tried to use it twice (i was rubbish at using it by the way). I have so much gear sitting in my garage covered in dust ( although i won't get rid as one day you never know). I Really should get a grip.

take a look at my blog

I know this is coarse fishing forum, but without doubt for me it's upstream nymphing. I just cannot do it! In fact I reckon unless someone much, much better than me shows me how to do it properly I'll never be any good at it.

For coarse fishing, it's indecisiveness. I've lost count of the number of times I just can't make up my mind where to go or what to target the next day, and leave it far too late to get ready properly and then miss out on the best part of the day, or end up with only half the end tackle I need. Very annoying!

Aside from that, I'd have to say catfishing. I've been a number of times, and even bought myself loads of new gear for it, but the sum total was one kitten of about 4lb! Since then I moved to Oxfordshire and haven't been since. :(

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

I'm like Budgie in that I am reluctant or slow to try new things. I don't know if its a weakness though, if it ain't broke don't fix it is my motto. And like Mat, I do tend to float fish when maybe I know I would be better off using a different method, but that's just because I enjoy it so much, and I go fishing to enjoy myself. Another thing is that I am too easily distracted by the wildlife around me, and can get carried away and forget my feeding patterns etc. I was watching a kingfisher once while fishing for barbel, and a sharp whack round my head from the rod butt, as a fish took off, quickly reminded me what I was there for. (yes I did land the barbel and it was lip hooked :) )

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Like was mentioned above - erratic feeding especially on rivers. By the time the fish have homed in on the feed there's a good chance I've got bored and casting to a different area.

Also tackling up and starting before I've had a good look around and really thought about where's the best swim.

All boils down to impatience I suppose :(

When I am deadbaiting for Pike a reluctance to move or change swims if the one I'm in is not producing.

Moving all that gear I suppose
