I due to take delivery of a brand new Chris Lythe pin

 

I've never used a pin before and i've waited for 2 years to get mine from Chris, I've probably gone totally overboard buying off Chris as a newbie but I loved the look of the M.M. Special and just had to have one.

 

Thing is how tricky are pins to use and can you lot give me some advice to make my pin a dream reel and not a nightmare???

Welcome to the Brotherhood of the Pin Markie. Once you start using it you won’t want to put it down.

 

Don’t just use it on the rivers use it on the stillwaters too. Won't be long you will be adding to your purchase

and incase anyone does fancy ordering one Chris has over 150 on order at the moment and I believe he is thinking about packing in his day job and go full time so as to reduce the waiting time a lot in future.

Ifv you want to try trotting:

 

They do take a while to 'run in'...don't start adjusting it.

 

Make sure you use a fairly heavy (properly shotted) float otherwise you will struggle.

Jim,you used to be able to buy a small tool (looked like a large cup hook screwed into a wooden tool handle) to do this with.Puts bad line twist in to mono though.

 

Interesting.....so is this method not recommended for this reason?

If you've never used a 'pin before I'd suggest buying the John Wilson Centrepin fishing DVD. Should give you a few pointers to get started!

Umm - be careful. Leeds can be a bit iffy - mate of mine had one and it was an absolute dog - very poor spinner (and he got it from new..).
