First Ever Fish

Miggy

Recommended Posts

A small perch on floatfished maggots from a local lake with my dad. I was four. We put it in a bucket of water (an orange bucket, I remember!) and I spent ages watching it swim around, completely fascinated. I still get the exact same feeling when I go fishing now :)

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

My first coarse fish was a RUDD of course when I was 8 or 9 - well what did you expect

It also happens that my 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 400th were also Rudd

My Second species was an Eel and my third a crucian carp once I was old enough to fish a new water (14)

RUDD

Different floats for different folks!

Perch, caught on my mates split cane rod at the local duck pond. We were all lining up to take turns in holding the rod and I struck so hard when I saw the float dip that the poor little blighter was foul-hooked throught the eye!

Our chief weapon is surprise

My first fish was quite a decent one. A cod of about 12lbs, from the rocks just outside the Coulport navy base.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Budgie, Bitterwell, thats just outside Bristol isn't it, remember cycling up there with a rod and creel on my back when I was at Uni, caught my first double from there... Is it still a fishery ?

Yes thats right.Ive not been there /fished it since I was a lad.I believe its still a fishery though as Ive seen reports on it in the weeklies "where to fish" type sections. dis a lot of my early "proper" fishing there. My old dad used to drop me off there on a Sunday before he went to work! Was a day ticket water back then (quite an expensive one at 25p as well!) A "Bett Lynch" lookalike bird by the name of Sheila Skeets used to run it on behalf of the council.Had a small chalet in the diving board corner.I never caught a carp there but saw my first big ones (15lb) caught there.

If I remember right it also once held the British eel record (around 8lb?) at one time.Quite possibly the one prior to Steve Terrys present one.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
