As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

I doubt that very much. Even being able to land it as a by catch only you will still take more than anglers do, and anyway, who's rsponsible for this new restriction being necessary in the first place? It's not anglers, so why should anglers be penalised? Fairs fair.

 

Is anyone actually taking any notice of the new rules?

As yet we have had no official notification but we expect it any day.

 

ICES are responsible for advice of a zero catch on skate and rays with a minimum allowed by catch .(25%)

It only applies for the North Sea, I doubt they fancied fighting the French.

 

Remember the day you came to sea with us , the fishing was not good , a bit early in the season , the catch was improved by box of god sized thorn backs from one fleet, well from now on I would have to throw back all but a couple of those fish.

 

It will only hit the small boats working inshore around the SE coast , The large Belgium Beam trawlers catch large quantities of mixed fish so if they have 20 tons of fish on board it still allows them to have 5 ton of rays (we don’t catch skate) on board . A small in shore trawler working on a couple of box’s of sole a day would only be allowed to keep 3 or 4 fish (2 ½ stone) when normally they would land 2 or 3 box’s of ray for their days work . Long liners catches are usually made up with a mix of 50 - 50 cod and rays later in the year it’s nearly all rays and a few bass it is just not possible to operate with out the ray catch , the only fishery that does not have much of a ray by catch is the close inshore bass, so that will please you when several boats turn to that.

I am targeting rays at the moment as I have for the last 4 years because they stopped me from fishing Dover sole until the middle of March , know the only thing for me to target (while the quota lasts) will be cod.

Some of Big Cods wrecks look inviting.

 

Before any of you say the stocks are bad and need protecting . For the same effort less if you take account that my nets are getting old and are in need of renewing, nothing fishes better than new nets, our catches of ray have increased year on year with this year being by far the best , with fishermen and anglers all along the coast saying the same . so where ICES gets their information from I haven’t a clue . I think it is a “how can we hammer the UK fishermen the most this year” idea from the EU aided and abetted by Bradshaw .

 

 

Ps

If anglers are seen to be coming ashore with large amounts of rays I expect commercial fishermen will not stand for it.

Nope we all catch the same one, its name is simon, it is really tired, depressed and lonely!

 

It used to weigh 40lb but has had that much excercise it now hovers around the 5lb mark and is considering emigration for the rest it so badly needs.

If I ever get the hang of it they'll bloody well ban it!

 

 

By the way anyone fancy sponsoring me in the WSOP?
