Sorry, another bivvy thread

One downside I forgot to mention about the Titan Globetrotter is that you can't have the rear vents open when it's raining as I could with my Double Top as you'd get wet.. This is due to the shape of the back that's curved rather than flat.

Head Bailiff, Terry, worked out how to stop the overwrap coming off in the wind though. Simply pet it out slightly further back and separate it more from the inner capsule than I originally had it. Start the overwrap with the porch struts but then peg out from the back working forward. Together this keeps the overwrap taut.

One thing I do like about the overwrap is that you can fold it forward giving shade to just the front of the bivvy and the porch.

Thanks Steve, I looked at loads of bivvys and I’m sure the perfect one doesn’t exist so having to fold down the wrap when it rains isn’t much of a problem.

The bed I’ve got in mind is the Trakker Levelite ELS in a deal which includes the Big Snooze + sleeping bag. It’s 88cm wide but only 76cm long when folded so it’ll fit in the car. I like that it doesn’t have camlocks to dig into you and uses rope instead of elastic for mattress support, should be a nice firm bed which is what I have at home.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back

Chris, rather than waiting until it rains I suggest you put your overwrap on at the beginning of your session and then fold it back if you want. That way you'll have sorted our out all pegging points plus the amount of tension required in advance, and it'll be much quicker to set up if rain threatens. In particular I found it tricky to set up the overwrap when it was windy, and of course the wind may increase if it rains.

I'd also suggest you have a dummy run in the garden to get the hang of setting up/taking down the bivvy, rather than waste valuable fishing time.

Well the bivvy arrived today and I’m very pleased with it. Unused as described by the vendor and the first go at putting up the inner capsule was quite painless. It’s massive and weighs a ton but it fits in the car boot and as I won’t be using it very often the weight doesn’t matter, I’ve lived in smaller houses than this. Roll on Friday when I pick up the bedchair and sleeping bag, I’ll then be a fully paid up carpin’ geezer.

I’m really looking forward to our early season Thames experiment. Summer evenings fishing, good restaurants nearby, a decent night’s sleep and dawn fishing with a bacon buttie and a cup of fresh brewed tea.

It didn’t quite fit in the master bedroom;

I never progressed further than the badly designed gardner pop up bivvy ,some bivvies i see on the banks have the most complicated frame you can think of ,its amazing they dont break a joint in a puff of wind.

My carping days are over my mrs had to come because its unsafe to leave her alone at home and she finally realised the long tailed voles were rats and point blank refused to go again

She had the bivvi and bed. And i sat on a reclining seat outside shivering

I have to say that I don't like being shut inside a bivvy. I use a JRC "Dave Lane" STI Brolly which is a pram hood design and open at the front. With a good sleeping bag I am plenty warm enough and it is deep enough to keep me dry.

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

I've only had two bivvies, first one was a TrakkerBig Z pram type which my Mrs used for one night in our paddock at the time. I never used it so sold it shortly after. I didn't really like it if i'm honest.

I very, very seldom use a bivvy as I usually only do one night stands. When I do fish through the night I always stay wide awake watching the float.

The bivvy I got was cheap as far as bivvies go (a TFG 2 man) but is large has a built in ground sheet, outer skin and porch. It goes up in one big peice which is good when you've got the hang of it...it's now that long since i've used it i'd have to have a practice set up before a fishing trip.

I think I only really got the TFG for the Wingham trips and it was nice and roomy and didn't leak :).

The gardner pops up when you throw it on the ground but i doubt i could refold it back up again after all these years without the instructions
