Yep, and that's why I am vaccinated against rabies, typhoid and a whole host of other nasties. It's also why I haven't used antimalarial prophylaxis for the last 10 years.

As I said at the outset, my issue isn't with vaccination, it's with compulsion.

If you had beem a Merchant Seaman that would be a career ending decision. Having a fully stamped up WHO Vaccination Card for the zone you are sailing to is a job requirement. No jabs, no sail.

If we were talking adults making informed choices for themselves, I would agree. Though I would still be open to the idea that if you make an anti-social choice, you may need to accept consequences.

 

If we're talking absolute parental authority, where do you stand on parents declining blood transfusions or treating cancer with homeopathy?

The question wasn't directed toward me, but I have a solid opinion. Absolute parental discretion is fundamental to the long term gene pool.

Natural selection is the only directed evolutionary mechanism resulting in conformity. "All life on Earth arose from one common ancestor whose descendents underwent divergent selection." (last sentence in Darwin...) In nature, only genes have a utility function—to perpetuate their own existence with indifference.

 

The presents of a "utility god" (natural selection) is one of the few aspects of atheist and or more correctly agnostic doctrine that I agree with.

 

Chit happens theory. The sooner the better.
