I hope Chris Plumb doesn’t mind me posting this but Paul Goulbourn, his lifelong friend and fishing buddy, passed away this morning. You’ll know from Paul’s blog that he’d been battling cancer for some time bravely letting us know how he was doing whilst continuing to wet a line when the treatment allowed.

 

Paul’s wife Kim was with him, my thoughts are with Paul’s family and of course Chris Plumb.

I was steeling myself to put something up. Paul and I have fished together since we were teenagers - we met at school - a school which had its own fishing lakes - a lifelong friendship forged on the bankside. In the past 38 years we never missed the opening week of the season fishing together - even this summer with the illness starting to take its toll and with me carrying his gear the tradition was maintained.

 

Seeing your best mate wasting away in front of your eyes has been devastating and his decline over the last couple of months has been particularly rapid. However, I'm still numb with grief.

 

Rest in Peace, Paul.

Wow, that's a shock. From talking to him on here, I got the impression that he was doing ok. His decision to write about his condition, and how he was coping, with life, and his angling, was I thought, both brave, and inspirational, and I hope of some help to others in a similar situation.

 

My condolences to his family and friends, especially you Chris, I know it's hard to lose a life long pal and angling buddy.

Shared my thoughts the other day so nothing left to say

RIP Paul

We are not putting it back it is a lump now put that curry down and go and get the scales

have I told you abouit the cruise control on my Volvo ,,,,,,,bla bla bla Barder rod has it come yet?? and don`t even start me on Chris Lythe :bleh::icecream:

So sorry to hear this. I had hoped to bump into Paul and Chris at Johnsons at some point. I always enjoyed hearing about his exploits there, and all the other waters he fished. Sincere condolences to Chris and Paul's family and friends.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music
