Storm Frank

This time around, the storm has dragged warm air up from the south but these systems can also drag freezing air down from the pole.

The warmer weather has certainly fooled a number of plants in our garden

Daffodils and irises are showing, and the camellia is in bud with one flower bursting out. (where is that divine watchmaker and his carefully thought-out timing when he's needed ?)

I fear the inevitable cold snap will annihilate our spring flowers, We are making the most of our winter hellebores which look good at the moment, and our large Cymbidium on the landing sill is showing five sprays of flowers

It doesn't "need" one at all but if you are looking to have a common reference point for a specific set of weather phenomena that takes place at a given time and location, a name helps to get everybody get up to speed quickly.

If we talk about the storm that originated over the Bahamas on August 23 2005 from the interaction between a tropical wave and the remnants of a previous tropical depression and which intensified into a tropical storm early the following day, you would be unlikely to know what I was talking about.

If I went on to explain that I'm talking about the cyclone that headed generally westward toward Florida and strengthened to hurricane force only two hours before making landfall between Hallandale Beach and Aventura on August 25, you probably still wouldn't have a clue.

If I pointed out that after very briefly weakening to a tropical storm, the cyclone emerged into the Gulf of Mexico on August 26 and began to rapidly deepen, strengthening to category 5 over the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, but weakening before making its second landfall at category 3 on August 29 in southeast Louisiana, you still might not know what I was talking about.

If I said "Hurricane Katrina", we are on the same page almost instantly.

I can see some merit in that, but what's wrong with just a date and a place?

For instance, the two really big storms we've had in the UK I remember as '87 & '89 - no place name needed as they pretty much affected the whole of the UK.

Seeing as we "inherit" foreign weather surely if they needed a name at all why not put secondhand xxxxxxx and point the finger at who ever sent it here ,infact demand reparations from those throwing worn out weather our way

Why didn't you mention the rest on this list?

The one in 87 certainly didn't. Anywhere north of Lancashire and Yorkshire was just another blustery day.

It was never intended to be a comprehensive list, just two that were very memorable to me. I can remember others that cause considerable damage close to where I was at the time but they weren't anything like as widespread.

So, just half of the country then, and probably well in excess of half the population affected.

A name for that storm would presumably be wasted on those not affected. :spiteful:

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..
