FIFA v. Poppy

All,

Thanks Ayjay ! I understand the "thought" but in this case I cannot possibly see how a poppy could be considered "religious, political or commercial". To whom the poppy would be disrespectful?

German's do not consider it disrespectful, in fact, those that I know find it imperative everyone should know there is a clear separation between the past and present in Germany. I don't believe they have a national day of remembrance for their fallen soldiers (?).

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

The last thing anyone should do is not remember their past perhaps the germans certainly no-one else should forget what germans did to europe twice ,never ever forget a past enemy, never ever forget any one that has harmed you in the past ,forgiveness is encouragement for them to do it again

Perhaps germany doesnt remember or like remembering on two occasions it lost its EU by force scheme ,third time around they got clever

As for the poppy its as commercial as things get if money is involved and i dare say has political influence aswell ,not the pooppy itself but those that propogate its existance as a symbol and make money from doing so ,not so many seen about today and i lost my bloody second one somewhere grrr

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

Its far easier to curse the darkness than light one candle

FIFA are just so out of touch with not just football but the world in general it is a disgrace to other sports and now this and yet they are keeping the world cup in Russia while the Russians openly admit to bombing innocent people so hypocrisy is personified as usual by these cronies.

What a bunch of thick idiots!

The poppy is the nation's symbol for remembering the sacrifices of previous generations. It has nothing to do with FIFA, but everything to do with our national football teams. Trying to attach political significance to how we remember thousands of lives cut short is disgraceful.

What puerile nonsense from an organisation that should be doing it's best to shake off it's corrupt image; quite right that England & Scotland are going to ignore this pointless dictate and we should then further tell them where they can go if they choose to penalise us.

No wonder many (like me) are rapidly losing interest in the "beautiful game".

Our chief weapon is surprise

What was ever "beautiful" about standing or sitting in the p*ssing rain watching 22 men in pyjamas kicking a bag of wind about?

It was a beautifully simple way of keeping the mindless entertained and gives then something else to argue and fight over rather than important things.

Well what a surprise it is the old chestnut the football/bag of wind comment

It is strange how any football topic on the forum brings out more detractors than supporters.

There has long been a tribal element to supporting your local football team, it's not compulsory to join in.

There's little to enjoy standing in the pouring rain but if you want beauty in football you only have to watch the sheer skill and artistry of someone like Matt Le Tissier, Dennis Bergkamp or even Gazza skinning a defence and scoring some memorable goals. It's not always raining. :)

To anyone who has already decided that you don't like football, you will never "get it", and that is your loss.
