Mystery object

All,

Not a "buzz" wire game. They, since inception, have used a wand. "Glo-in-the-dark" is going to require more time.

The device now strikes me as rather rudimentary. Commercial products with a significant purpose have generally looked "better built".

NO question, it is NOT current technology.

Phone

It has a kinda '50s look about it. I wish I could get a hold of it for an hour or so.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

I think I know what it is. one of them Buzz wire games! move the device around the wire maze, it buzzes and counts how many times you have touched it. maybe.

Yes it could be a crude detector but one for a metal item that must pass through the u shape as it couldn't have much of a range ,it could beep but I can't see much use for a digital Read out unless it was designed to count things going through it.

It could be a stud locator or nail finder but why the need to count? And as it has a reset its designed to operate often for a fixed limit sub 100 in batches then start again

Thinking again probably not a detector their coils are many turns of wire not just one ,it could pass a current between the wires and use that to 'shock' and count those ? But with the small screw I would amagine its not old so shocking things probably outlawed by some EU directive ,is the wire a single bit or are they're two ?

Chesters1,

It appears to be a single bit of wire, perhaps two connected. Several of the devices I investigated were small hand held metal detecting devices. Ones where you home in on the signal from the larger sweeping device you are probably familiar with. It was just a thought. If it didn't jog your memory it's probably NOT from that class of electronics.

Many "stud" detectors have similar overall shape - but none remotely, much less exactly, have the same bells and whistles

Ayjay,

Among electronic devices this one is rather simplistic. Hand held, one readout, one reset, no memory, probably 2 AA batteries etc.

A hint - if you Google non-specific generalities i.e. "electronic devices"; electronic meters" or just "meters" in the Google Images section a bar of more specific classifications come up across the top. You can select any specific catagory in the bar - sometimes as many as 10 - 12 specifics appear.

I believe I have passed over this device through design and technological advances. "old", "vintage" "antique" are to broad a term to be of any help.

I'm dedicated!

What's the prize?

Probably not a pinpointer there's no need for a scale only a noise as the range on most is a couple of inches the thing would be more robust as well I cannot see it lasting to long in a rednecks passion of detecting in long forgotten basements in long gone houses in the backwoods LOL

The answer of course lies in the unfocused pictures and that allusive bit containing letters we cannot make out

Good post no fighting yet perhaps it can be a regular thing ? I expect we can all find something unusual to post and see if its guessed

I could postva picture of a small flacid pink thing I found in my underpants ,I have long forgotten what it does and my Mrs refuses point blank to help find out

You'll need to get a wee bit of cheese to coax it out :P
