Most NI contributions go toward benefits and pensions.

To make a difference to healthcare would require significant increases, ring fenced for healthcare.

This was a very interesting radio programme last night.

The difference in efficiency (of purchasing, and of clinical outcomes and the associated costs) across the NHS is absolutely shocking.

The second rate treatment I received in the UK was one of the reasons I originally moved to France.

.

God help you if you get second rate treatment in Spain Sporty.

I wont scare you with details of close friends who have had, not second rate, but third rate treatment. And yes they are Spanish nationals

Excellent program. It demonstrates what can and should be done (and why it often isn't)

It is the patients .no patients no problem.

A great deal is deliberate bed blocking ,my sister has badly broken her ankle ,she lives 300 yards from hospital.

She could not be released without a home assesment (shes 58 not 98) that took a week ,she was not allowed out even by taxi she had to be collected ,her 22 year old daughted cannot drive ,i have no licence so my brother had to come over from bristol to collect her then satisfy the assesment person she was collected and delivered to her home and would be cared for by her daughter.

There's nothing stopping anyone from discharging themselves from hospital.

The hospital will make you sign a waiver saying that you are doing it against medical advice, but unless it's a mental rather than a physical problem they can't stop you leaving if you want to.

Yes you can but how? As i said the only driver was my brother and in the big picture the daily injections she had to recive (and still is untill the next cast is fitted) to stop blood clotting (must have beem bad breaks ) may not have followed if you go against the system ,as you say you can leave anytime but you wont get a lot of sympathy on the way back in if it goes tits up.

Believe me theres a lot of people in hospital long after they should be thats half the problem the hospitals prefer blocked beds than lawyers trying to get money for neglected grannies and its easier to neglect them in a hospital than employ district nurses to do it ,luckily my niece is back from cambridge while her tutor is off galivanting but had to cut her paris based research short which may harm her in the long term

Unfortunatly my sisters house is on four stories with kitchen on the second floor so starving to death likely as she has not yet gone up the narrow steep stairs to it ,luckily theres a groundfloor loo LOL

You also have to remember insisting on leaving maybe construed as a mental problem your in the right place for a couple of doctors to declare it so

You just tell them you're off..................and get a friend or relative to collect you in a taxi, the hospital can't control how you travel ......................but it sounds as though your sister wasn't fit to be at home anyway if she needed daily injections and can't use stairs.yet.

Invalid grump!;)

Grump away .

The "system" only works two ways in pretty much everything ,its hard on or hard off ,hard off and grannies litter their toilets in death and the press get involved so it goes to the far end the other way and grannies are not allowed home so they die from thirst in their hospital bed thay have been blocking for three months.

Unfortunately the system is hard on at the moment in this instance but i guess hard off somewhere else soon to be on the front page

My mrs second new knee she was let out to quick and rushed back in ,not because her leg fell off but after finding her "lost" notes noticed her blood lacked the required amount of salt so two hours after getting home i had to take her back in for two more days which was the same time as the first and third ,a bed was unblocked for 3 hours ?

Thinking about it she (my mrs ) never had a home assesment ,i guess because i was present but you would think a 22year old daughter fullfilled the same role ,perhaps the system has changed since my mrs was released but we did have an assesment a month or two later which could be good for a follow up or perhaps to late for the initial report?
