Ok I'll accept that. Better than 50/50 ;-). I'm not one for haggling too much about the meaning and usage of words, unless someone is just being deliberately obtuse. The "it's only a theory" brigade for example.

He doesn't have to travel so far. Both America and Canada are members of NAFTA. All he needs is a job offer in Canada and he can move there.

Certainly his methods of governance thus far point out many of the shortcomings of a Federal Republic.

 

Republic - “A political order in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who are entitled to vote for officers and representatives responsible to them” — we are that.

 

Democracy - “Government by the people, exercised either directly or through elected representatives” — we are that, too.

 

It is likely Trump - should he last - will indeed get rid of 90% of one of these tenants - - - - - - but not both. That would be a "benevolent dictator" by definition.

 

You are quite right about "getting in the way of" progress. The problem is there are 350 million of us who would like to define progress. Go ahead - what is progress?
