No thaw here even in glasgow. Main roads are clear but side streets are still as bad as a couple of days ago, more tracks to drive on though but very thick compacted snow.

Most roads are clear here, even side streets but if you are out on foot the pavements are treacherous.

Rather mild now, a little bit of rain. Even the sidewalks are clear ;-)

You even have american pavements in your city ! Blimey we have bramble covered bits of mud to leap out of the path of mums ruling the road picking up their brats

I even bought a flouro coat so as to give them time to swear at me more slowing them down as they beep at me for the audacity of walking on their road

I thought that the reports of panic buying were exaggerated, until we did our shopping today. Bread aisle empty, ready foods aisle only a dozen or so items left, frozen veg cabinets nearly empty.

Has North Korea launched or something?

We do that over here too? Often getting out in the worst bit of the storm to get ready for some fictitious storm. Blinding rain and the isle with bottled water is empty

They bake their own bread, and they had even run out of that. One bloke was busy trying to restock the ready food aisle, but he couldn't keep up on his own.

 

Strangely the local garage has a massive pile of 25lb bags of rock salt, which I thought would be of use in this weather. We're lucky in that my wife used to work in the office of a place that uses salt for cleaning, and storing natural sausage casings. It only takes one phone call, and a large bag of it turns up on our door step.

Perhaps the flour ( or in the case of little sainsbury the part made bread) ran out ?

As big stores use depots rather than buy localy a bit of snow on the motorway stops the delivery system at a stroke ,as supermarkets have frequent deliveries then not having them empty shelves because compared to the shop the storage section is limited

 

It used to be called putting all your eggs in one basket
