Rod Licence rip-off warning

Recommended Posts

Lots of us buy licences on-line or direct others to do so prior to taking them out fishing.

The first hit that you will get if you search for "fishing rod licence" is an ad for "https://www.onlinefishinglicences.co.uk/".

I don't know whether you would actually get a licence if you used this site but I suspect that you will - but you will pay a significant handling fee.

Be sure to use the official .gov web page to order your licences.

It's £30 for trout and course.

I would actually be tempted to leave this on as "Pinned" Ken, if only for the benefit of New Members, some of which will be also be just starting out.

Same sort of thing happened for driving licence renewal ,it had dvla in the url but took you to a site that for a fee was a middleman to renewing your licence .

A quick browse doesnt show it now but it was very convincing when it was about.

I had similar in the form of a letter purporting to be from the Inland Revenue saying I was due a Tax rebate - reading further revealed that it was in fact from an outside agency, offering to claim on my behalf. :nono: (I've had similar approaches online)

ohmy.png I nearly got caught out last week when I had to renew mine for the crime of being over 70. Probably same site as had DVLA in the address and was top of the page. They asked all the right questions but when I came to the end there was a £9 charge. I deleted it but I'm still wondering if they have retained my personal info for selling on so I've reported it to the Cyber Crime unit, just in case. huh.png
