no doubt in my mind the kid will get all his gear back plus some more. terrible thing when somthing like this happens. i remember getting the train a long time ago at night and got mugged from 2 junkies i never again took the train at night but its not much of a problem few years down the line. i just hope this kids confidence to go out fishing again will not be lost forever, some advice to him would be a good idea like clubs to join where they go out fishing in numbers and im sure he would be more than pleased and feel safe and secure, i myself dont like to go fishing alone incase of such incidents.

Have just spoken to Alan Carter, the secretary of Will's club.

The club officials and many members know all about this disgraceful incident, and offers of tackle are already piling up. The local tackle shop has also weighed in with offers of replacement tackle.

His interest in fishing is carp, carp and carp from what Alan told me.

I have offered to take him and his new tackle out to a commercial carp water at my expense, and that offer will be relayed to his parents. I hope he will take up the offer, and more importantly, catch a whopper whilst doing so.

Since we don't know what his local tackle shop and club have chipped in, it seems like a good idea to send him a cash donation plus any bits of small carp related end tackle that you can stuff in an envelope, if you prefer to donate some tackle instead of cash. That way he can buy whatever he needs to complete his kit and we send a box of stuff that we know he'll eventually use. It'll also save horrendous collective postage costs.

Elton seems happy that I coordinate a response so what I'd like to suggest is that you send any cash donations preferably via my Paypal account at argylle@btclick.com or to my home address. Any small tackle items can go to that address too.

I'll publish a list of just the names of those who responded, but I'll give Elton a list of what was donated. I'd feel happier if someone else knew exactly what was received and there was a bit of an audit trail.

If anyone has a better suggestion then let me know. I'll also stick this on the carp forum.

Have been in contact with the family and a fishing trip targetting carp arranged - probably Tues or Wed next week.

Will says he already has enough gear to fish with, but next week, on the trip, I could size up what he actually has and make good any gaps.

Meanwhile your contributions through Gerry will be most appreciated - with luck he should be able to open a tackle shop when he leaves school

A report on the trip will appear in due course.
