Peggy,

Her classroom material is "presented" on a personal computer and her "work" is retuned in the same manner. Frankly, eventhough she reads, I find her vocabulary lacking (maybe it's just me?). She can "burn up" the Microsoft Word dictionary. She's added any number of "txt" symbols (abbreviations) to the dictionary to be converted to words for her.

As someone who had 2 years of remedial education for what is now called dyslexia in an under performing inner city school (I was one of only five percent that achieved five or more GCE's), I'm not really a fan of spelling and grammar Nazi's but there are limits even to my tolerance.

I like sportsman, use several fora and admit that on rare occasions, I have remonstrated with supposedly grown men for having the written communication skills of a retarded seven your old - although I usually save it for those that are throwing stones in a glass house.

As for "text speak" generally, chalk me down as a hater.

I can read that crud but it's sorta like trying to wade in thick syrup - no fun at all.

No not quite like that. In France one is taught to write in cursive, joined-up writing, using a fountain pen from the word go.

we were but all that came to an end when the secondary school insisted on capitals only ,now my handwriting goes between the two .

not sure why we need to grasp foreign grammar surely they speak english with the lack of it we do ?

i actually was given handwriting lessons by Mrs funnel of one of my primary schools all to no avail though

i was probably one of the few school leavers to leave school at 15 but in the third year ,i did the second year almost 3 times

i have no problem with kids using text speak it wasnt that long ago (in our long history) only the clergy wrote and mostly in latin

fountain pens though were very middle class we used scratchy dip pens until our parents rose up the ladder :D

Newt,

CRUD stands for Create, Read, Update and Delete. (Retrieve may occasionally be substituted for Read.) These functions are also descriptive of the "data life cycle".

I had to look it up. When I was in business I had IBM equipment (before PC's). One time I paid a handsome sum for IBM Crud.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_gotten_correct_grammar

From the above link

Gotten is correct, and very old. In England many people wrongly assume that gotten is a modern Americanism, but the truth is the English more-or-less stopped using it, and have forgotten (!) that they used to use it.

my mind not only wanders-- sometimes it leaves completely.
