Will catch and release fishing be banned in the UK?

About 5-6 years ago nearly all the carps mouths at a fishery were sideways, even the skimmers. I was fishing on a lake that had a match just on the far bank and one match man was fishing the full length of his pole (16M I guess) and he was dragging 4-7LB carp into his net in a matter of seconds. I know there can be a lot of prize money at stake, but still I thought that they would treat the fish better.

However I returned last summer and to my surprize the majority of the fish were in a lot better condition. There was still the older fish that had bad mouths but the younger fish were fine, so maybe the fishery did something about it, or the match men are treating them better. I'm glad this is the case.

I didn't say it didn't happen anywhere. I just wondered what the point of you posting it up was, since your banner advocates catch and release, yet the photograph is what most would consider to be a very extreme example of what catch and release can do.

Either you're for or against C&R. Advocating it yet making the argument against it seems indecisive to me.

I'm baffled.

i do catch and release and i'm relativly free to make that choice, that's not the point i was putting across, the point i was making is respect. Now fair play to some in the defence, tumors or mis-bred or whatever, however you cannot hide the facts that there are some total c& r's who don't show fish respect. There's tons of it on the freshwater forums.

I'll have to up date me signiture, thanks for the advice.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

The argument for banning catch and release is simply that you should not put a fish through the ordeal of being caught without a good reason - eating it is seen as a good reason, just for the fun of it is not.

Personally, I think that coarse fishing will not be outlawed simply because the elite love to game fish.

People also forget the benefits of having reliable and sensible anglers sitting on different venues.

How many pollution incidents would have gone/would go unreported or would have been found too late to save a particular water?

In my fishing life I have reported three pollution incidents, one of which could have been devastating for a particular water had I not gone to a British Waterways depot to report it.

Anglers also are the first to spot potential disease problems.

Anglers also report the ar**h*les from destinations East who regularly plunder our rivers/waters, using unacceptable methods, taking vast quantities of fish from our waters. It has got that bad in my local area that fishing clubs/groups have banned Pike fishing on their waters. A local Carp water caught two Chinese gentleman leaving the site with 15 Carp, between 6lb - 8lb in their car boot, all the Carp died as a result of their treatment. The Police were a waste of space and so they dealt with these gentlement themselves.

I believe the benefits of having a fisherman sitting on the bank outweigh the negatives, afterall decent anglers go out of their way not to harm their catch.

I also carry treatments for any fish I catch that have wounds or sores.

Oh what pleasant picture you paint of anglers. 'Guardians of the waterside', and all that. I'm afraid that your post has more holes in it than the average landing net. If I go on to describe the other side of anglers that I've often witnessed, then I'll be accused of 'feeding the antis', like others have.

Oh and talking of holes, why are you picking on the anglers in the Scunthorpe area? As far as I know they're no worse than many others I've met. B)

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

John.

Where did I mention Scunthorpe?? Who am I picking on??

In general my post was meant to be a positive and yes I know there are anglers who do not give a cuss but in my area they are at a minimum.

Never mind, perhaps you didn't get your leg over last night and are somewhat disgruntled or perhaps you only enjoy picking fault with fellow forum members posts. I do urge you to read my post again and try to find any reference to Scunthorpe.

Whatever your motive for the reply to my post I can honestly say, I DON'T GIVE A TINKERS CUSS.

Barry,

For a change we agree 100%. Generally speaking ignoring a problem doesn't make the problem go away.
