Does anyone ever mess about flavouring sweetcorn?

 

Whats the most successful flavour?

Nope I don't believe it makes a real difference, rather it catches the angler.

I have used stinking maize which is great. I read about it in one of my old classic books from the Dick Walker era but not sure if it was his book or another but he recommended soaking grains of hard maize out in the sun for months till they were stinking.

What I used to do was boil up a few kilos of hard maize, chuck it in a fermenting bucket outdoors in a sunny spot and relax for a few weeks.

Fermentation and rotting appears to go on at the same time and it absolutely hums! You can top it up with another couple of kilos of boiled maize when ever you like to keep the supply going. It goes all milky and you will be very unpopular with her indoors and will need to wash your hands for weeks after using it.

 

It stinks!!! But the fish love it :yucky::yucky:

May I add to my previous post this tidbit. I've said it before but it is worth mentioning again. Sulfur releases the primary amino acids in sweetcorn. A pinch is plenty.

BTW I rarely add anything to sweetcorn. Sometimes, If I go out of my way to get fresh sweetcorn on the cob, I will ferment a cob or two.

Flavoured sweetcorn has never made a difference for me . I have got a load of aniseed powder in my cupboard though which i could try this year i guess?

is not the point of using sweet corn is that it looks and taste of sweet corn

I belive flavouring or changing any bait colour can work on its day.

Me and the father in law tried soaking corn in syrup and took a couple of waters apart at first, on the third and fourth visits it did not work.

On another occasion myself and a mate were fishing a deep irrigation resi which held some big fish.

I fished corn dyed red over Expo groundbait (also red) and caught my three biggest ever bream and a carp, my mate had a carp on plain old yellow corn.

During an interclub match at a water where pellets, boilies, pastes and plastics are banned I was told meat did not work so I took 4mm cubed meat dyed red and finished the match in 2nd place - not bad as I had never fished there before, other club members using plain meat blanked.

 

Read Steve Burkes article on here somewhere with regards to essential oils and maggots - I clearly shows the effect changing baits can have.

I have done alot of reading on flavourings, scents, colourings, amino acids, stimulants and essential oils - to be truthfull it is very confusing whilst also making sense.

The trouble is get it wrong and you can make a bait less appealing than when in its original form!!!

actually I go the other way, and use sweetcorn as a flavour on other baits!

 

try chopping up a tin of luncheon meat at home and putting it in the fridge in same baitbox as the corn the night before your trip, a can or corn added to a can of hempseed makes a great quick and effective spod mix!

 

I also like to use the juice from a couple of tins of corn to dampen crumb / groundbait rather than plain water.

Liquidise it, strain and add the juice to maize flour and tumeric for a long lasting cloud effect groundbait.
