Your Favourite reel of all time?

best open faced reel the mitchell 410 (faster than a 300 ,no clunky dab bailarm of the match 440) never found a better modern alternative that felt as natural

best closed faced reel abu 507 mk1 never found a better modern alternative ,thats felt as natural

Best centrepin the browning revolver ,although i'll admit to coverting other equally nice reels

A minor criticism of the 410...and it is minor...the increased retrieve speed does require seriously special attention to line loading I've found...but yes, a brilliant reel..my bass spinning reel of choice, or a 300, bugger, who cares as long as it's a Mitchell?

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

For trotting it's a toss up between my Match Aerial and Adcock Stanton, I prefer the Aerial in slower water and the Stanton in fast.

Legering for Barbel and close in floater fishing - Grice and Young - don't know what model it is - I have two, one of them is an Avon Royal so that'll do.

Everything else a Mitchell 300.

No sentiment here I'm afraid, it's my little shimano biomaster 2500RA. There's nothing particularly amazing about it and it has no history or pedigree, but it's the best reel I've ever owned. I don't even really like how it looks (I much prefer black than silver) but it does everything perfectly with no fuss.

Second on the list would be my shimano baitrunner 5000GTEs. Again, they're just brilliant, well made, reliable reels.

Third is my AN pin. It's no collectible item or a cherished piece of art or engineering, but it is faultless for trotting and lovely to use.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Even though I don't use it very often these days (usually for night fishing with the float) my all time favourite reel is my Abu 501. I do have several other reels that I do like very much for certain types of fishing.

No favourite reel for me, well not 100% true as I guess my favourite is which ever one I am holding at the time with a fish attached to the end of the line.

I have no favourite reel ,rod, float etc they are just tools to me. If it does the job I want, I am happy enough with them. Most of my reels are Shimano and I am pleased with them but if I picked up something else and it worked ok i would be more then happy to use them and think nothing of never using my old reels ever again.

Stephen

Shimano Alivios, got two of them at the moment. They aren't particularly expensive at about £30 each but they are brilliant little all rounders, good quality, durable and reliable. Can't fault them for the price I really can't.

As famous fisherman John Gierach once said "I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't."

Swear by my 300's and Match's - would happily buy them new again over most current models but I'm now curious about the 410 ... Worms - can you elaborate re above please?
