Wouldn't it be nice if everybody restricted themselves to saying in a post or PM only what they would say if they were face to face

I'll give that quote full marks :thumbs:

You can call me naive if you want, (but I prefer laid-back), but I can't understand what there is on AN to make a person so angry, that they would resort to personal abuse.

The image I get is of red faced people with bursting veins, hammering a keyboard while screaming abuse at the screen. Why?

Some of the posts have answered my questions, re long running feuds, but as for the rest, I just don't understand. If these people see something in a paper that they don't agree with, do they tear it up in anger, or throw things at the telly if they don't like what they see?

This seems to be a national thing, along with road rage, trolley rage are we now seeing forum rage?

Yet the same people condemn violent actions by some of the youth of today.

At what point do people think, abuse becomes unacceptable? IF it is ok in a forum when you can't see the person, then why not in the street when you can?

I'm sorry if I seem to be labouring this point, but I can't get my head round the reasoning behind this whole thing. (That's if reason comes into it)

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Thanks for the link spangles.

It seems just about everyone could be thought of as a troll, it seems it is all in how a post is percieved by the reader. This internet thing is more complicated than I first thought, it could make you paranoid.

I'm quite well known for sarcasm and winding friends up, but there is a cut off point, before it gets out of hand. Maybe some people should be more aware of when that point is reached.

They are aware and get great joy in pushing things WAY beyond that cut off point. There in lies the problem.

The thing is Gozzer, you cant type facial expressions and sarcasm, not without it being misconstrued(sp) that is why things can get so heated on forums because what you may (or anyone else) may say in jest or tongue in cheek, can be misconstrued by "THE" or "A" recipient, smileys can cater for some things that you type but you wont ever be able to pacify everyone with what you really meant.
