Whoa, I'm not making any argument, Cory, they're just the musings of an unoccupied mind. I haven't got into the 'swing' of this retirement thing yet. I'm jumping betwixt the things I have to do, and the things I want to do, and need occasional rests to just let my mind wander, and I've found that it goes to some strange places when let out on it's own.

Just one question from a layman,Wouldn't the comet have a gravitational pull, and wouldn't this give the probe a 'weight'?

John.

I'ts weight will be in the order of 10 grams. For all intents and purposes that may as well be zero. You could pick it up and flick it into orbit roud the comet with one finger. It's mass is 100 kg. It's mass will always be 100 kg no matter where it is. Mass and weight are not the same thing.

No sh1t, I do know the difference between mass and weight strangely, having a very small "weight" however is not the same as having no "weight" as well you know and to say it is, is incorrect no matter how you disguise the fact.

It's ten grams mate, so small that it makes no odds.About 60 tons of cosmic dust falls onto the Earths surface every day. In relation to the mass of the earth tihs is also MINISCULE. I'm not "disguising" anything, I even did the math for ya.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Yep you did the maths proving that is has weight and hence that your own statement that it had non was wrong, thanks for that it saved me the bother. As I said I wasn't arguing the effect a tiny amount of weight would have on a comet but simply that your statement that it has "no weight" is incorrect.

That's right it was incorrect, but of no significance.

The important thing is, it's still working :yahoo:

I think the gravitational pull of the comet is so low that if you were to stand naked on the surface and farted, you'd take off.

A good sneeze would just about do it and as you say the best thing is that it is working. The lads and lassies at ESA must be chuffed to bits.

So if the moonlandings took place they could have been propelled back to earth with a catapult?

Did they send a child to the comet ,thats some feat and probably noticed by social services!

Why would they consider a trip to mars one way ,if its so easy to take off from space stuff it should require little fuel or is it they may demand not to have to come back as the rent would be overdue?

Not sure the comet exists i cannot see it through my camera
