A pike rod or even an eel rod (Zebco do pike and eel rods in 10ft I think with 80 to 100g casting weights). Ought to do the job I'd of thought. They'd probably be 2lb test curve or thereabouts but that would suffice just fine.

Alternatively I am guessing a pier rod wouldn't be a million miles off - I know Fladen do a 10ft 100g 2pc rod - it's a bit brutal (being glass fibre, it doens't have much finess), but some of the better sea fishing brands would probably have something similar on a nice carbon blank.

The europeans have rods for everything - you would believe how many rods there are in Browning, Quantum and Zebco brochures!

Probably have more luck looking through manufacturers "Specialist" range. I think it is Fox that do an 11ft flood water rod that has a t/c of 2 3/4.

Shimano do a nice 11ft specialist rod in the Beastmaster range but I think it is only 1.75lb.

I surpose it really depends on the size of waters you usually fish and the tactics you prefer to deploy. As long as you don't need to cast 100yds + with a grapefruit sized pva bag, then a lighter t/c than the norm 2.75lb (ish) will surfice and probably give more enjoyment whilst playing a fish.

Eat right, stay fit, die anyway.

I use a greys 7 foot stalker alongside a shimano hyperloop (full 12 foot jobbie (2.75lb TC)).

Ok you cant cast the greys to the horizon but youd be surprised how far it will actually chuck a ruddy great method feeder!!!

My personal preference now is that unless I need huge casting distance that I much prefer the short rod. Its great fun to play fish on and is by no means lacking in backbone despite its beautiful suppleness.

Funds as always are tight, but when they ease, I intend buying another 7 foot stalker and might get a mate of mine to fabricate me a mini pod for em :)

Have a look at Eltons thread "Short sea rods" which is obviously in the sea section.

There are about four or five full carbon rods in there about the length and action that you're looking for in case you're having trouble finding it , here it is http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=65352 , have a browse through some real bargains to be had there. Look for the carbon blanks IM6 or IM8 if they are there and don't worry about the brand names if you have'nt heard of them, the Fladen range are very good having got one myself

Have a look at the free spirit bank creepers, 10ft, 2.5lb TC. They'll be just the job. Even shorter than that are the Yateley anging centre 9ft 3 piece stalking rods. These rods are the dog's danglies. :)

Going back to the original question I can't follow why short rods are required. I'm short and 12ft rods are fine for me - it's the balance that matters and rod length really shouldn't alter that - or rather a balanced 12ft rod + reel should balance fine.

I would suggest the original poster give it a proper try and consider trying different reels as they will have the greatest affect on balance.

I would also suggest that a longer rod is much easier to play fish on (especially for novices) than a 9 or 10 ft rod. They just simply don't have the cushioning ability.
