Glugs Dips and other smelly things

Has anyone used any additive that has instant and permanent results. It seems that every few weeks a new wonder bottle of stuff appears on the market that will have the fish coming from all points to attack the hook bait. None seem to work better than any other for me

The two best times to go fishing are when it's raining and when it's not

never mind the magic baits - fish where there are magic fish.

The Okkers Pit tench were like that.

Did they bite ?

Yeh, so much so, that you had to hide behind a tree to put yer maggot on.

Wotnob,

Yes, there a couple "failsafe" additives (IMO).

1 - n-butyric acid (baby puke is a wonderful natural source). Anyone who would use butyric acid MUST realize there is NO WAY to get rid of the awful odor. BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL with this stuff.

2. - Capsicum is a "failsafe" attractant. Fish do not eat capsicum nor does it have any food value. It is only "failsafe" attractant if you are the only one using it at a particular venue.

No need to go into the disclaimers with educated anglers. The adage "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink" has merit with fish as well.

Never tried any additives for the simple reason that once you convince yourself that a particular product works then you can become a slave to it. If maggots, lobs, bread, luncheon meat, hemp and corn all stop catching fish then I might try adding something to them. I don't have anything against additives, I'm sure there are concoctions which will enhance the baits I use but I just don't want to spend any time trying them out. Finding the fish and being there when they're feeding will always be the best additive.

I shall be watching this thread. I'm after something meaty/fishy/prawny to spray onto bread that actually attracts fish.

When I was a kid, one of my schoolmates always brought more sandwiches with him on fishing trips than he could possibly eat.

Some he gave to me, the rest he used to eat the middles out of, then chuck the crusts in the water.

We discovered thereby, before the days of Dick Walker, that carp would come surprisingly close to the bank to take floating breadcrust.

Sooooo.... why not take prawn sandwiches with you on fishing trips, eat the middles out, and fish with the juice-soaked crusts ?. :)

In other words, why not use real prawn juice on the bread, or better still, real prawns on their own (same with meat and fish)
