Tench,

 

"What would I go for?: - - - - - - - WoW !! - I almost forgot this was a fishing forum. Actually in these lazy days of early autumn I used to do "surprise me" lob worm fishing. I loved the heat of the sun under my cap on a crisp day. The ambiance of the venue was probably my first consideration.

Even though I prefer a more overcast day for predator fishing, I think I would still go out and target Perch, Chub, Zander or Pike with lures on a bright warm Autumn day. Once the weather gets worse, I will stay put and fish a more static approach but while its warm and decent conditions it can be a pleasure to wonder casting a lure for waht ever comes along.

A great bit of roving drop shotting was had over the weekend. Managed to land a 12lb pike on a flimsy 6ft spinning rod which was quite a task i can tell you!!

Given your occupation - you were talking "fishing" weren't you?

 

If not, perhaps a blond - on a cool day slightly overweight is OK. They don't sweat to bad if it's cool. Ohh, and stop by Ayjay's on the way home.

Late tench, or crucians, on the edges of lillies that are now starting to die back :-)

Either the same as philocast above; on my local estate lake; or a late autumn Barbel in my favourite stream that has been putting on weight for the colder and leaner months ahead.

I agree, today would've been a brilliant fishing day and given the choice I would've been out targeting anything during daylight hours but I'd make sure I had lobworms with me and come dusk I'd be in my favorite perch swims.

A Bunch of Red Maggots - 3,5 or 7, (I prefer odd numbers) fished down the edge on a size 16 or 14 would be my preference to Lobs.

 

That way can pick up the medium size fish + the Donkeys if they show.

 

I like to use Red hooks when fishing Red Maggot - makes good sense to disguise the hook where possible??
