I had it explained to me by some Political Prof. sat next to me at a 'do' something like, most people think of politics as a straight line from the extreme left to the extreme right, whereas in actual fact it's a large circle which people move around on various points and agendas, in most aspects the more you move towards right or left the more you become like the thing you think you are moving away from. Something like that, he explained it more eloquently than, I took it that you should consider people based on your experiances with them, not on the opinion given to you by others.
