  1. I cannot remember if I did! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
  2. The centrepin is just another way to add interest to what I do. The simple whip rod catches fish... regularly. The fixed reel and closed face are surefire hits, wouldn't want to leave 'em at home. Now the centrepin just gives that chance, that possibly , just possibly the fish will get away. Somehow it goes with the glass fibre rod, or even the cane. It belongs to a pre bait alarm era, no buzzers just the rattle of a cigarette foil ring, or the fairy liquid cap clacking the ring. How the hell did we catch fish?
  3. In my mind it will be 5.00, the sun is just getting stronger and I will be looking over a small stream. But in reality I will wait for the weekend, and whatever the weather I will allow myself a sigh as the float trots once more down the stream. It has got to be the porcupine quill float on the amber glass fibre rod. The centre pin can wait. The swims will need to be cut out and the swans will be a bally nuisance, but the church will chime the hour.
  4. In this last thought we have the essentials of our problems. On one hand we have the interest in angling to preserve the habitat containing the fish, including looking out for the welfare of the fish. On the other hand we have the desire to be seen as the successful hunter. It is not enough that we merely catch the biggest etc but we need proof that we did the deed for others to validate it. I am not trying to pass judgement on either view but with this philosophical conflict there can be but one result, the activity will lack purpose. The vacuum will be filled by those with commercial interests. This then leads to many things that I would rather not see ...litter from the packaging adorning the swims, the us n thems attitude, fish being price tagged as a commercial crop and the focus on a battle (not a pleasure) to harvest the fish. We need to step back and just consider where we are taking fishing.
  5. Fluorocarbon line As a hook length...wouldn't be without it. It must be hard to see in the water because it is jolly hard to tie the line. But it is not supple and can have a mind of it's own. But so many times I have changed only to a flouro hook length and immeediately got bites. Jury is out over the abrasion claim. AS a main line.... nahhh not at that cost..
  6. I agree with the pre spawinging mode bit. But targetting other fish species and altering hook sizes and floats worked for me. Nothing large came out but a variety of 1/2 to 1lb fish close in.....relaxing.
  7. I would n't leave home without 'em. They are always a great attractant. Put a bed of maggies down and watch what turns up. Whereas fish tire of other baits the good old maggot goes on. Any left overs at a session... just leave a day or two and then use the chrysalis stage as a floating bait. Just dropping on to the water will soon show where the surface feeders are.
  8. "Quick trip to the supermarket to get some maggots and sweetcorn" Which supermarket chain? I have seen sweetcorn in Tescos but no maggots yet. Or do you go rooting about in the bins out the back?
  9. Try using a bundle of those really big lob worms Either at dawn or dusk in the margin.... prebaiting does help as well.
  10. I get real hot with regedit as well... nice to know I am not alone lol
  11. Somehow some of us get through that stage. But we have all been there... hanging on to mates elastic belt as he tries to cast bait to pike in weir pool. Hanging on to bridge support underneath the bridge with one hand to cast to perch underneath... in winter!!! The worst we thought we would get is wet. We are able to look back and laugh. Thanks God for smiling.
  12. Nah Probly got her own bivvy
  13. Your pictures are confusing, do you mean nymph or nympho
  14. what do you mean "OR" These usually come as a matching set in my experience.
  15. So long as you only want the Astra 20 what ever it is... should be OK... even if it isnt the LIdl/Aldi set ups have no problem.
  16. LOL Damn where's the plasma to go with dish set up. It is sooooo annoying to have a recorder that is not bivvy friendly... and the damn remote has a limited range. But you cannot deny the pleasure it gives to watch Go Fishing next to the bivvy. Trouble is that it draws a crowd and then before you know it you need a fondue set to keep em happy.
  17. Have got a 4000 for the lake work.. still in excellent condition and I also have the little 2500 for small stream set up.... goes on and on. because it is so smooth , flawless engineering I just have so little to say about them.
  18. I also have mixed feelings about the spawning issue. But the one fish that I really doubt it would affect must be the perch. The piccy really does capture the "agro look" of the perch. The big lardy overweight wotsits (fish of course) never look that good. Still a nice fish . I still get a kick catching them half that weight.
  19. What software are you using? I have not met the problem with Audacity yet
  20. Since when did bank and telling the truth go together? The tabloids have pushed out the rather romantic notion that the banks are some sort of service (overdrawn 20p incurring charges etc) but in reality the phrase " a bit of a banker" sums them up best.
  21. I guess that part of the problem is that the Stour is seen by the EA as really a waterpipe to carry water from the fens (Ouse etc) down to the East (Essex and all that). Just outside Haverhill is a pumping station into the Stour and quite a number of very expensive automated weirs along its length. As you get into the lower course there are a number of draw off points. So by the time it gets to Flatford it is a reduced stream. It is not quite as bad as the Gipping.... Below the Sproughton draw off point (for Alton Water) it becomes a wide sluggish ditch.
  22. Nice one... I had more in mind the sort of give the hook to the line to tie itself. No more the cold wind on a damp day at dusk shivering with hook situation. but the gizmo looks fun... but can I be trained to use it?
  23. The Christmas trees are out, the gloves are off for Christmas. So what do you really really want? The tackleshops are stacking the shelves with the latest gizmos, but has the gizmo that you want been invented yet? eg self hooking line?, Hairy Mary undoer Lets get a list for Fishtec etc
  24. I just think that the tackle shops need to be a bit more the "one stop fishing shop" Licenses were at the PO, but we can all go online to get one...tackleshops could do this (get customer details, fill in website and print out) Ideal for day permits, add a cost on top for the convenience. Permits...all tackleshops have done these. Directions to the water..always done these. But now with local knowledge do a google map and mark in where it is...satellite image etc. well about 16p for a colour A4? (just a guess) Make the tackle shop the place where anyone can go to start fishing immediately. Starter kit & all the bits of paper for a days fishing. Once someone has had a day's fishing they will return to it if it is easy to do so.
  25. I think that a quick shower of maggots was in order there..... just to show goodwill and donate them to the tackle they took away.
