The 01205 telephone number you mentioned is the Pilgrim Hospital just outside Boston - about 3 minutes by car from Alan's sister's house.

This is a signature, there are many signatures like it but this one is mine

Hiya,

I've just spoke to Alan, he was being discharged today and going to his sisters, then heading home.

He sounded a *lot* better this time :)

Spoke to Alan on Friday evening, he was struggling to breathe but his sense of humour was raring to go - as usual -. He reckoned he was organising a tunnel digging party, for himself and three nurses. He then decided that one of the nurses was too fat to squeeze through so he was only taking two with him!

Delighted to hear he's on his way home but I reckon he'll struggle to open the front door against the pile of birthday cards.

Help me unhook these, please.

Thankyou, Anthony. Wedded bliss takes up most of my spare time these days and we're off fishing most weekends. Mini Onions excelled herself on her first boat trip last week, she landed a 10lb small eyed ray - not bad for a 7yr old eh? I must have another bash at getting pics on here!

Help me unhook these, please.

Hi all,

back again (oh no they all cry).

Firstly a big thank you for all the cards and phone calls, Norrie please don't call during Doctors rounds

The journey on the Sea Cat was great and well worth the money.

I met up with Elton and our 15 minute chat ended up at 1 1/2 hours but well worth it, so nice to see him again. We exchanged a few bits and I must admit that I did keep a couple for myself and the rest went to Alan Stubs children. I must admit that if I was still Carp fishing I would have kept a lot more as there were some tempting pellets etc, well worth looking at some of the products that he is selling. The reel bag included is brilliant, holds my fly reel and 2 spare spools (blue Fish Rite).

We met up with Alan, Marian and David and headed off to Marians without any problems except that I went down hill from there :(

Against my wishes they called an ambulance (well we were supposed to be fishing the next day), funny thing here, I was not taken into the accident and emergency dept but directly to a GP, evidently this procedure cuts down on the A&E waiting time which costs more in fines for delays to the hospital than paying a local GP.

The GP said Pneumonia after a quick examination so it was up to the observation ward for the next 8 days.

I won't go into details but three examples will stay with me forever, I saw FOUR different Doctors and they all asked the SAME questions, the answers were written down as well  and I could not breath without the air machine. The second incident was that I had to call for the sit down toilet, not nice this bit but it came out in a gush as pure liquid so a bit of a splash back to say the least. I asked the SPANISH nurse for some paper and was given a pile of ladies tissues, yes the little ones that ladies wipe there noses with. I kicked up a row about this and actually told the "nurse" to FO. The Sister came up to sort it out, would you believe it they had run out of WC paper on that floor. Every time I needed anything from then on the Sister was on the spot. Lastly, when dispensing tablets a qualified nurse HAS to be present, now there are only 2 Nurses on the ward so this must make life hell for the one qualified Nurse, evidently drugs meant for patients were being stolen and sold at some stage (sic) so strict rules were put in to stop it.

Alan vanished while I was asleep which upset me a lot but the next phone call that I had from him was a big boost to me, I had sold him all my Carp gear and he caught on his first attempt, Alan please tell the story.

After 3 days in hospital even I admitted that LA and Davy were out of the question so had to cancel the flights (no insurance, stupid).

Again Stenna Line were brilliant, I kept falling asleep so David drove the van down to the ferry, a driver was waiting for us to drive onto the ferry, unload the wheel chair and get us up to the lounge, a steward was within yards of me for the whole trip over and helped get me back to the van, Sonja could have done it but what the heck. Another driver was waiting to take us off the ferry where we were met by Albert and his wife who drove us home and unloaded the van.

I was dead on my feet by this time but it was my Birthday so insisted they stayed for a drink, when they left a constant stream of people came to visit and they were all very welcome even though they just had a couple of drinks but it was smashing to see them :)

Regrets, I never got a line wet, I missed Alan leaving, Franz (Chainsaw) missed out on his trip to Scotland and I wasted our holiday money that was supposed to be a break for Sonja instead of putting up with a grumpy old git.

Plans, well as soon as Norries boat is up and running I am off up to Scotland for a WEEK and if it is OK with Davy, Sonja will join us for a weekend on Catchalot, bank loan looming.

I have a 17mtr extension hose from my Oxygeon machine plus Morphine so its back to work on Monday, oh and Nitro glycerine (sp) tabs just in case

The specialist says that I have to delay more Chemo for a couple of weeks as it would be too dangerous but the FULL Lazer treatment is on the cards for this week.

I think I have bored you all long enough but have to end by saying a big THANK YOU all for your thoughts, cards, messages, gifts and support during which has been a bit of a rough time, they DID help a great deal.

Tight lines one and all.

Alan :)
