I was just about to post a joke (not on this thread)and suddenly its not funny. I had a feeling that this was going to be the outcome after his long illness. So sad.

I've never met the man but he has informed many of the online angling discussions on here and cracked a few jokes along the way. I'd like to sincerly wish Alan and a speedy recovery but if that's not possible, I'd wish him at least a dignified end.

Much as I feared, Norrie!

My mother was on Morphine for about a week before the end, but I have heard of people being on it for 18 months.

Unfortunately, after the Shipman and other cases, terminal patients have to suffer a lot longer.

But Jim with the excellent nursing care Alan is receiving especially fron Sonja I'm sure his pain will be well controlled and his dignity maintained.I'm sure its very comforting to both Alan and Sonja to hear how much they are in our thoughts.

What can one say at a time like this? Very sad news, I can only now hope that the end is painless. God bless you Alan.

I spoke to Alan on Monday and, despite the terrible situation he's in, we still managed a few laughs and had a great chat.

Not having him posting on here at the moment is just plain weird. He's probably spent more hours on these forums than me!

Take care, mate.

been delaying posting on here, as it's quite upsetting, due to similar events in my life, but everyone else has managed it so here i am. i still haven't met alan, wish i had. my thoughts are with him and especially sonja.

i don't believe in god, heaven or anything like that, but with so many people on his side alan is in safe hands.

take care mate, i haven't stopped thinking about you all day
