I pretty much agree with Yoxer.

Having worked in the benefits system for 20 years, I've finally got sick to the back teeth of having eighty or ninety percent of the claims that cross my desk being fraudulent and would happily see the plug pulled on Mr Beverage's little idea.

My job for this weekend ? Send off the residency visa appilcation for Sri Lanka and just in case that gets rejected, pull up visa details for three or four other tropical places that I've fallen in love with over the years.

Paul. As far as management are concerned, the only things that seem to matter are dealing with claims quickly so that targets are met and doing it cheaply so that the administration costs (another target) are kept to a minimum. The fact that the country is haemorraging money as a result of fraudulent abuse of the system never enters their heads.

By the way, my managers may be better paid than me and they might have authority over me but they ain't my superiors....

 

Ferret. If you have a legally obtained British passport, you're British and that's that. Moreover, If someone was born in my city, then irrespective of the colour of their skin, religion or their ethnicity, they're not only British but English and a Brummie.

I really don't think that any other outlook is tenable in a multi ethnic scociety. Having said that, I also think that 99% of PC statements are complete BS and I don't believe that a multicultural society can work.

I hope this thread doesn't degenerate into another bout of xenophobia. It's about the fraud committed by many people from all communities within Britain as far as I'm concerned.
