There where some polish camping out on a nature reserve several miles from me and they where eating Swans and fish so it's not a new thing. Swans are supposed to be very good to eat and old cook books have recipies for them amongst others like blackbirds, songthrushes, lapwings etc but are now protected as they have been for quite some time. Obviously some people don't give a monkeys about what the polish eat and just take the mick out of people who have seen it.

By the way the polish I spoke of vanished pretty sharp when a few locals realised what they where doing.

I thought that also, I think you would be in a little more trouble for nabbing a Swan then a few fish.

Although the Crown retains the right of ownership of all unmarked mute swans in open water, the queen only exercises the right on the Thames, where unmarked swans belong to her and swans marked with nicks in the beak belong to the Vintners or Dyers companies.

 

Nasty beasts, swans, apart from looking nice (and possibly being a bit tasty in a Royal Banquet) they don't have a lot going for them.

we haven't bothered with languages on our ponds its a descriptive sign ,not descriptive as i would have it but it does the job
