Just got back in from a great trotting session :)

Recommended Posts

I've had a great season so far this year with some brilliant sessions. Today I decided to test my luck and see if it was still with me. I set off out this afternoon for a few hours trotting and my luck was still with me :).

I dropped into a quite fast and shallow-ish part of the river that was difficult to wade out in due to the pressure on my legs and the slimey stones and boulders on the river bed. Anyhow I needn't have worried about my lucky streak fading as on my second trott the float dipped and I struck into something solid...a barbel of course :). It was only about 4/ 5lb but felt like a monster due to the fast water and it was very awkward to net - when I put the net into the water the power of the flow tried to pull it out of my hand. After that first fish it literally felt like a barbel a trott. I counted to nine barbel and then lost count as I got muddled up with my next two barbel being foul hooked and both coming off just before I got a hold of 'em. I must have caught at least another 6 or 8 barbel but with quite a few dace and a couple of small chub mixed in between them. I did notice the fish where still covered in those flat 'space ship' lice and I think they may have caused a few small red sores on several of the fish, nothing that wouldn't heal up quickly enough though. It was a very enjoyable session and even though I was still catching my stomach got the better of me and I had to go home to feed it :).

I only took a couple of pic's as it was just to much hassle to wade back to the bank.

Tigger,

Good on you !! What's that speck of black on the back of your knee? Probably nothing.

Phone

So, 20ish or more hooked - how did that rate per hour.? How long were you gone? (few hours?)

Nice pics of the fish, though I always feel that it would add so much more to a post of this type if pictures of the actual venue / swim could be included - naturally, taking care to 'protect' the location, if neccesary?

Phil, the club that has this stretch of water has a total non-publicity ban and would quickly revoke a members club book if someone reported the member for putting up pic's of their venues. I totaly understand their rules and respect it ....it's a great club.

As you say pic's of the swim etc are nice to look at and do make a post more interesting.

Amazing fishing :)

Have yet to have a "proper" barbel on the float like these.

Aye - suspected that there might be something like that in operation, hence the caveat --- shame though - I get as much from pics of the swim etc as I do of the pics of the fish. Nice to see someone (else) with one of those reels - and using it :-)
