Jim,

I know we are getting on your case pretty hard. You should review Mr. Gorbachev's comments in context. He became quite the opposite of international extreme patriotism and aggression toward other countries. These comments were in defense of a VERY liberal doctrine even I would have a hard time supporting and i am so liberal I am a flower child. They were directed at the British Tories and similar political persuasions on the continent.

If indeed the EU is the old Soviet Union Great Britain is, last I knew, still a part of it. Much like Ukraine, with BREXIT you will, or could, become an insignificant island satellite of the same form of governance.

I have always been Pro Europe and despite not liking a lot of the silly rules and regulations that comes with membership I always thought that the general idea of membership is a good thing.   Howev

Cheap scallops?

Far better to have a frog in your throat for a year or so than the French, Germans and a few others shafting you in the ass for decades to come. Oh look Ethel, a short post.

Gorbachev was comparing the institutions and the political agendas of the ruling elite, not the living standards of us plebs. The French, especially, hate the US and the EU goal is a Socialist superstate to challenge America. It won't work, we all know that, but they are willing to have us go through the same sort of control freakery that the people of the USSR had to go through for 70 years before it collapsed. The UK will possibly be the first domino.

You can only think about money, it seems. How much income tax have you paid in recent years?

Just wait and see what "ever closer union" means. All the money that is sent back home by the immigrants, "redistribution of wealth" socialists call it. Conscription into a European Army for your grandchildren. You are deluded if you don't think it is planned.

First jim just what has my income tax got to do with Russia ? As for money you would be shafted without it ask them who struggle every week I have being there know all about that and you say all the cash being sent home what about all the brits working round EU probably on substantial more correction will be on substantial more cash than those working here how much do they send back here I know many lads in oil game on mega bucks working in the EU those immigrants you are about pay uk tax and national insurance plenty of rotting fruit in the fields this year due foreign labour shortages you don't fancy busting your back to Help those fruit growers out the farmers could do with a few volunteers . Just wondering how the Socialist Tax-and-Spend way of life that you seem to want, affected you, or whether you were one of those that thinks it wouldn't affect them.

Got any figure for money sent home by Brits working abroad, and I don't mean all the stuff that the oil workers bank offshore to avoid tax. Over 10 years ago there was a figure of £2.3Bn a year being sent back to Poland, published. That's money that could have been spent providing jobs in this country. They send more back than they pay in tax.

When I went to Germany in 1968, there was a £50 limit on what I could take. Part of that was the train fare.

Then there's those chaps selling the Big Issue who have built luxury homes back home in Romania.

As far as graft is concerned, try carrying 5,000 bricks a day up a ladder. Done it and got the T-shirt.

So you worked in Germany in 1968 jim good on ya why did you do that better job prospects and now you want to stop other EU citizens doing exactly what you did short memories i know loads of lads in the 70ss went to Poland to build a Steele complex and now we have poles over here as for graft humping Steele 21ss all day from the spider deck on a rig up over great in it graft been there done that mind you 12 hours a day on boat seven days a week 60 days on the belt with out a day off aint that easy but there we go we all have our crosses to bare but I never pull anybody else down trying to better themselves its seens to be a British disease especially now against foreigners. Jim,

I too, like many others lean left. I am curious what you mean when you say "tax and spend". Perhaps there is another way? I'd be enlightened.

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

Yes but there is well over 1000000 more of the young generation now eligible to vote since the 2016 referendum and they aint happy with whats being done to them they are the ones brexit fear the most if there was another referendum Tommorow brexit would almost certainly be history and very well might be yet .

I know it's only Scotland and not the whole of the UK but it does appear that the lefty globalist waffle isn't convincing the young about immigration in Scotland.

I don't think you can rely on young voters to vote remain.

This bit will go down well with the Scots I know, and reinforce their decision to vote against independence.

The SNP’s Growth Commission also called for migrants to be offered tax breaks if Scotland votes for independence, allowing the country to grow its population and support the economy.

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John
